Congratulations Randy.

You've just turned us from a top 6 club to the next Leeds United* in one fell swoop.

* May be interchanged with Notts Forest, Sheffield Wednesday etc
Sorry but you've got that wrong. Leeds ended up as they did because their board threw money at an unattainable dream, with no thought for what would happen if it went tits up.

I thought he walked out on Small Heath and was taking them to court and them taking him to court likewise. How come we are paying 2million compensation then if he was free? Seems like everything this board do at the moment is a joke. Anyway Big Eck,best of luck your going to need it .

This isn't about McLeish as erstwhile Bluenose, is it?

It's about a club who only a year ago had notched up three consecutive 6th places with a highly regarded manager who had brought bright English talent to the club - good players, mostly ( Harewood excepted).

I forgive the Board last season, MON, whom I supported , left us in the shit. But this summer we had rescued some respectability from the season and had the cream of talent available this time, Ancellotti, Benitez, Hughes, Rijkaard etc.I don't care who was your personal favourite, there were some good names out there.

And who do we end up with?

The Lerner/MON dream is over, Everton style mediocrity stares us in the face, or worse. Perhaps that is all there ever was, but we did have hope - now that is gone.

I am sure that McLeish will "do a job". It could all melt down into relegation, more likely  a Stoke mentality "We're safe" hooray, with 40 points by March.

That is has come to this....................................

Yes, most of it, for all the denials, is about where he's come from. We've appointed less promising managers in the past but there's never been this reaction. I didn't want him, but now he's here we have to make the best of it. 'Everton-style mediocrity,' given the two club's respective league places over the past ten years, will do nicely for a start.

Why have they included all these comments from Ferguson on the official site?

'Look - Sir Alex has won all these trophies so he knows what he's talking about'.

He doesn't run our fucking club. They've admitted and provided proof that they don't know what they're doing. If they realised that, they should get someone working for us that does, not someone who has nothing to do with Aston Villa.

To use a competitor's viewpoint as some kind of justification that they've made the right decision is ridiculous and infuriating. I can just see the words coming out of Faulkner's mouth. I think he should fuck off.

The club putting condescending opinions and advice from the manager of another Premier League team - one that we should be trying to challenge - is patronising in the extreme. Ooh, look, Alex Ferguson says McLeish is alright for a little team like Aston Villa, so we should all feel grateful and happy. What an endorsement! The stupidity of our board in going to the likes of vile Alex Ferguson for advice is imbecilic and utterly galling, but the very idea that they think Villa fans will swallow this garbage is making my gag reflex work overtime.

After all the good work they've done, how could they go and do something so downright insulting? Their lack of understanding truly beggars belief. Let's not blame McLeish for any of this, the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner.

"Oooh, look, the big gruff Scottish manager at the really big club who wins loads of trophies thinks he's a good appointment!"

More amateurish PR. Is Martin's best mate still doing that job?

To be fair to Lerner, that's exactly what he hasn't done.

Welcome Alex! Good luck, and ignore the vocal minority.  Once we start seeing good football and good results they'll go quiet.
It's not the minority it's the overwhelming majority dont you read other posts? and this is going to be the problem if he doesn't get us up and running right from the start posters will savage each other before turning on the manager and the board. I now want him to be a success and prove the majority wrong but i can see a difficult season ahead.
Isn't there a difference between a minority and a vocal minority?

Agree. That's wound me up no end. A nice little pat on the head from Ferguson, just before he signs our best player. Thanks. Thanks a lot. Ferguson speaking well of someone who was a key player for him at Aberdeen, back in the day? Brilliant. Everything's okay then.

Agreed, lets get Sir Alex to tickle their tummies to distract them from the kick to the bollocks they've just taken.
