Fucking hell, Glenn Hoddle? Really?

Not suggesting any 1 name there, more an exercise in pointing out there are many candidates out there, I could have put up Keegan, Strachen, somebody mentioned George Graham, there are decent No2's we could look at like Brian Kidd, point is there are many many options other than McKliesh thats for sure.

Brian Kidd took Blackburn down, three seasons after they were champions

Again Not suggesting any 1 name as we should get him, what i'm saying is we haven't even tried to look IMO, and how does Kidd compare to Mcliesh, not a lot in it.....

Well Brian Kidd was a United assistant when they won things, he left and they still won things...so his impact doesn't seem significant

McLeish was succesful at Hibs, Rangers and did a decent job with Scotland.... and regardless of what anyone says he got SH there only real trophy and a 9th place finish the year before....with little to no support from the board

I blame Barcelona for this "We must play wonderful football" malarky. I dont think I have ever seen Villa play particularly flowing football in my years watching them...why now? When did this become more important than winning?

It has almost become a case where a managers success means nothing if it hasnt been done without the ball leaving the floor and a manager can build a reputation on simply getting his team playing "pretty" football

I think the deep seated fear factor is the other end of the scale, we all know Villa are capable of some long ball dreary dross, its the hope of something differant to the prospect of employing someone that will deliver just that kind of negative play we fear, I think that's the dread.

I don't give a shit about that meself - in fact, I don't care for Barcelona at all. But there's a difference between trying to play exciting football at pace and having a side with the best English striker in the country that is happy to play for dull 1-0 wins or 0-0 draws in the hope we stay in the league.

I get that... but we are Aston Villa

If I was manager of that scum, I would do everything in my power to try and keep them in the league with a limited ability squad. They had Jerome and Zigic up front....he was probably trying to keep the ball away from them

Villa have quality Blose could only dream of. Rangers and Scotland played decent football under him. He tried to get them playing football hence Hleb and Bentley but if the board only let you get them in and then sign Zigic when you ask for Pavlyuchenko then what can you do. We have quality and I think there is no reason why, with the likes of Makoun, Delph, Downing (hopefully), Bannan etc... we cant play decent football

As long as McLeish doesn't bring Jonah with him - aka Peter Grant we might just have a chance of staying up next season.

I'll have to take your word for his style of play with Scotland or Rangers. I can only go with what I've witnessed, which was dreck (ooh, that rhymes with Big Eck) and add it to those regular drubbings at the hands of the Sky 4 which seemed, the odd 7-1 notwithstanding, to be largely a thing of the past for our own side.

Again i'm simply naming names as a possibilty, as for kid there is no question he's a work in progress and he's worked with some great managers, but i'm not suggesting for 1 minute he is qualified to take the job.

As for McLiesh and pointed out in another post the SPL doesn't come into it, and IMO he's been far more damaging for the noses than he's ever been good for them. Not many Blues fans that would disagree with that, and thats right on the back of a cup winning season.

Gardner was their top scorer with 8 goals last season.  Another fact to damn him with.

Well, we need a keeper, full backs, play maker. Who will he bring in? Can he get the bast out of Jean II Makoun? I like him and I hope he can knuckle down and settle in ready for big KO. Will Barry Bannan get a run? Will Albrighton be as big a impact. I hope so. Bent's going to score goals. Will Carlos get a decent run in the side. I see Delph being the sort of player McCleish loves so I reckon he will blossom. What about the number 9, the bald fella maybe Eck can sort him out or just swap him for Dan and Foster as a favour to his old buddies down the road.
I'm over it now, a summer time break from all this I think. Well maybe until tomorrow night.

I'm not one for protests, that's rather "Fearish", but I have give this some thought. I don't think that it is the duty of Fans to decide who or who should not be the next Manager. Lerner has gained more than enough favour for us to trust him, but there is also a responsibility from his side to get a Manager that will take this club forward. I honestly believe that that in Houllier he tried that and perhaps with a full pre-season takes us back to the edge of the European placements or higher.

However, I cannot believe that the Board have even considered McLeish for the job. I'm not anti him as a person and by all accounts, he is a decent fella, but a Manager that has taken down a club twice in 3 seasons under whatever circumstances, should not even be on the radar. Managing the Great Unwashed merely exacerbates the situation.

If he becomes Manager, then the 2 ST's that I would be buying won't happen. I've had a bit of a sabbatical for the last 2 years, but have still been home and away, with a bill for £1000 for the LC Final alone,  just so that me and the lad could be there.

I'm in admiration for those that say that they Support the Club and not the Manager, I've always been of the same ilk, but in this case I think that the Board, if they appoint AM, have crossed a line and indeed a point of no return with a lot of Supporters.

What a shame that it's come to this.
