Outplayed a team who are further along in preparations than us in a very difficult climate. Brilliant. McLeish has worked wonders with the defence already. With N'Zog and (hopefully) others to come it's only going to get better as the team takes shape.

Back four and keeper all played brilliant. As did the midfield. Makoun, Petrov, Bannan especially.

good solid display in difficult hot conditions - given and the defence were excellent, midfield worked hard and delph looked busy as did petrov , gabby looked lively up front as did fonz when he came on and a hardworking display from heskey , nice finish from bent from an excellent bannan cross - well done to all!

agree collins just shaded man of the match , but dunne looked slim and back on form and warnock and young both very solid.

Good to see we've got a left back. He and Collins played very well

Warnock really impressed me. Refusing to express any optimism though.

We lost something going forward after Gabby went off but the defence were excellent throughout and the manager can be well pleased with himself for that.

Early days and all that but something to build on.

Good grief - a clean sheet?  A towering performance from our defence and clinical finishing up front - and a committed feisty win?   This isn't right.

If it carries on like this I'll have nothing to whine about.

I blame McLeish.

Collins awarded bottle of bubbly. Is that really appropriate?

Really good workout for the lads there, encouraging to see the back 4 looking like a proper defensive unit again! Also liked the fact that AMc recognises that Ciaran could be a decent DCM, apart from the ball to the ghost player.

Think we could really hit a trick on Saturday and give away a few thousand shirts to locals who are watching the final. Could be a really good promotion of the club. The counterfeit one's in China are really cheap, so shouldn't break the bank  ;)

Some, ah, interesting punditry from Yorke just then; Bent drops deep, holds ball before laying it off to the wing, then turns and moves into the box where he promptly gets on the end of the move that he started and scores a goal.

Yorke: "That's a part of his game that I think he needs to improve."
