His international management experience was dismal too.

In fairness even Mourinho would have a shite record managing Scotland.

MON maybe did edge him in Scotland but look at what a twat he turned out to be.

Eh?  I didn't say that!?

Apologies it was jembob - I blame the cut and paste!

It just feel dirty to me
There are things in life you just don't do

Shag your best mates wife

Kill defenceless puppies

Poach the manager of small heath for the love of your life

But Des!?   You yourself crossed the old divide didn't you? Oh the irony!

Oh yes i did but only when i was too old and slow for the great and decided to take the money off the bad

Absolutely abysmal lapse of judgement from Randy. I hope it wasn't a move to show the fans who's boss. He will have to be the most succesful Villa manager since I started watching in 1990 to make it worth the bad feeling that has been created here. And quick. Good luck with that Alex.

Up the Villa

But how many times must the same argument be put forward?

It's the key point as to why people are pissed off, the Small Heath link is irrelevant, there wouldn't be this sort of vitriol if we were signing Scott Dann or Ben Foster, it's his shit record in the Premier League and his boring as hell tactics that's making people angry about this appointment.

There is no argument, though, is there? Its a debate. The deed is done and the facts are out there in the harsh light to be seen and discussed by all.
Tomorrow morning will witness the installing of a manager in a style few thought we would see in our lifetime.
There are trying times ahead for this glorious club, the Bright Future may seem further away than ever, but the claret and blue blood still runs in our veins, our Proud History can't be taken away.
Whatever is the outcome of these turbulent times, we will still be there.
Up the Villa.

Dare I say that IF Doug was in charge he would have secured a bigger appointment than this?? (ok then i'll be quiet)

And now I've seen everything! This hysteria has been embarassing! When people start to talk about Doug, I realise just how fickle the fans of Aston Villa have become.

This is a far, far, far, far better appointment than Billy McNeill or Graham Turner or Dr Jo or David O'Leary!!!!!!

And Yes, he did get a very average Championship side relegated from the premiership! SurAlex would have struggled to keep that shower of shite in the premiership.

Sorry my tongue in cheek comment clearly was lost in translation.........

I am glad this thread has returned to the real world of breathtaking disbelief that so much could be ballsed up by so few.

If there was ever to be a degree course in football administration (perhaps there is for all I know) the best practice handbook of manager appointment would be called Aston Villa August 2010 - June 2011.

1.   Always be prepared for the possibility that your manager/coach will leave immediately before the start of the season in order to inflict the maximum damage to your football club.
2.   If you have good temporary management cover give him time to steady the ship and do not panic if some heavy defeats happen as the temporary management settles in.

3.   Do not build up the hopes of the temporary manager that a permanent post may be offered then dump him.   A good club servant will be humiliated.

4.   Do not appoint an old manager.

5.   Do not appoint a manager with health problems.

6.   Do not appoint a manager who enjoys the adulation of a rival club.   It will create conflict of loyalties.

7.   If you appoint a manager who is old and/or has health problems have a detailed plan of action locked away in a drawer somewhere for instant reference if your manager cannot manage any more.

8.   When choosing the new manager to replace the sick one choose the one you want, make sure you have enough money to buy him then go out and get him quickly like picking an apple off a tree.   Do not be like a kid chucking sticks up a conker tree hoping what you want will drop in your lap.

9.   Do not tap up other clubs managers or even give reason to be accused of doing so.

10.   Do not treat your club's fans with contempt, the day you need them will come sooner than you think.   Be as open and up front as is consistent with what you have to do but under no circumstances use a front man to insult the intelligence of the club fans with puerile remarks about getting a new manager is not like getting a balti pie from Marks and Spencer.   Respect the fans' intelligence and goodwill.

You have two hours.   Write on both sides of the paper.

You thought of sending this to Faulkner? After all he is our Club CEO and he can look at this now and than.

Isn't it about time Randy appointed a proper grown up CEO?

Somehow, the management team have managed to make us an unattractive prospect to a pretty long list of eligible qualified and talented managers.

I can't imagine that reporting to a twelve year old buddy of the chairman appeals to many of those candidates.

Faulkner's clearly a bright kid but a cv reading school->college->banking job in city->boss of Aston Villa FC just doesn't work for me.

You don't speak for all of those opposed to it. The Small Heath link is all many of them know. If you asked them what his tactics were, they would not have a clue.

Oh come on it wasn't that boring. Remember us not watching  the game  v Liverpool but looking for score flashes on the big screen and iphones that was fun and do you know what? McLeish gave us that fun not once but TWICE!

Shows how much they're bothered when they can't even announce the new manager with the manager actually being there at the press conference.

With his lack of talking to us will we ever find out why Randys doing this?

Owners of football clubs are in a unique position, in no other industry could those with lots of money, treat their customer base with so much contempt without fear of said customers switching brand....
