Dare I say that IF Doug was in charge he would have secured a bigger appointment than this?? (ok then i'll be quiet)
Sorry Ego. You've just gone too far!

Interesting how McLaren has said that we approached him. Those things are confidential. Did he not realise that the board were calling him to tell him not to bother applying?

Where did the "smoke screen"  that he wasn't wanted because of fan feelings?

There seems little point in even supporting the club.

Then go and support someone else - A true Villa fan will support the club whoever the manager and owner. They come and go we don't. I was a Villa fan long before Lerner and McCleish and I will be a Villa fan long after both have gone. I personally think McCleish will do a great job for us and anybody who spends £300m on a club is entitled to make the decision who runs his team. Lerner is the one whose investment stands or falls on this decision.

Fine but irrelevant to the point I was making.

His international management experience was dismal too.

In fairness even Mourinho would have a shite record managing Scotland.

MON maybe did edge him in Scotland but look at what a twat he turned out to be.

And now I've seen everything! This hysteria has been embarassing! When people start to talk about Doug, I realise just how fickle the fans of Aston Villa have become.

This is a far, far, far, far better appointment than Billy McNeill or Graham Turner or Dr Jo or David O'Leary!!!!!!

And Yes, he did get a very average Championship side relegated from the premiership! SurAlex would have struggled to keep that shower of shite in the premiership.

Lerner can make any decision he wants to - he owns the club.

We can complain about those decisions - we ARE the club.

Shows how much they're bothered when they can't even announce the new manager with the manager actually being there at the press conference.

He was relegated TWICE with the Blues.

Just how many times has this got to be trotted out? Change the needle.

Trott out what?  Oh yes he relegated them TWICE...in normal like he would be a Villa Legend!

.. and has relegated 3 of his last 4 clubs. The exception being Rangers.

But how many times must the same argument be put forward?

The fact that Van Gaal and Quiche Flores weren't even considered drives me up the bloody wall.

I will try to support AM & not judge him over the first few games. I'm willing to give him the opportunity to prove me wrong. Only time will tell if this is an inspired appointment.

Like all football fans a new season always brings out the eternal optimist in you & I hope, against every instinct I have,  that this appointment proves us all wrong. There are some plus points, he must has balls of steal to take the job on and he has to be applauded for that. People in the game must have given AM a seriously good reference for RL to give him the job. I genuinely think he's a regular bloke, I just hope that we can enjoy a period of growth & stability. Most managers would have backed out under the abuse which has come his way over the past few days.

I think the appointment is a sign that we (the club & fans) are entering into a phase where expectations will have to be restricted. We will not be challenging the top 4 any time soon.

AM needs to understand that negative tactics won't win people over.

But Des!?   You yourself crossed the old divide didn't you? Oh the irony!
