If rpast elegation ruled out a candidate then Spurs would not have appointed Redknapp. The reason many, not all, are so violently against him is his Small Heath history. I heard the R5 report on the protest earlier and they pointed out that although when asked everyone denied it they were singing anti Blues songs throughout.

I didn't want him but am prepared to give him a chance and well remember that 12 months ago many on here were talking him up after giving them their best ever finish. I get the impression that he's a decent man and well liked and respected within football. He might just surprise us.

Exactly where I am Chris.

Isn't it stating the obvious to say that we hope he does well if he gets the job?

I've nothing against AM as a bloke, he seems likeable and erudite when I see him on telly. I just dont think he's done anything to suggest he should be our manager.

It's a bit of a cop out to suggest there is some massive movement against his character, or that he's being portrayed as a child murderer or something. He isn't.

He's being portrayed as not a good enough manager to be managing our club, and it's pretty hard to get away from that, because there's plenty of evidence it is true.

To be fair Paulie some of the comments made about McLeish on this thread have been very personally abusive towards him, and had nothing to do with whether or not he a good manager.

The General has been on the board the last few nights, obviously to garner opinion, but hasn't seen fit to post.

Do you fucking blame him? He'd get pelters, despite it not actually being his decision in any way whatsoever to appoint any manager.

How is he not involved in it?

He might be a non executive board member, and he shouldnt be asked about playing matters, but he gets involved with every other thing about the club, doesn't he? I imagine he doesn't set the ST prices, but he's asked about those, for example.

Nobody should be throwing abuse at him, that is definitely out of order, but if he can't be asked about our managerial appointment, what's the point of him being asked about anything? He'll be telling us to get behind the team and the manager and to come to the matches in force, so why should this (crucial) subject be off limits?

He was also quite happy to talk about it with people on Facebook the other day, too, I note.

To be fair Harry Redknapp sent Southampton down and went on to do well.

It could work out!

*Edit*

Doh someone said exact same thing

What has become clear to me is that our board are willing to put their money where their mouth is but lack any imagination at all. A pity because you need both to succeed in football now.

Well what I seem to keep hearing his he is a good players manager and maybe after MON and Houllier who both managed to piss off sections of the squad (rightly or wrongly ) Randy want's someone who isnt going to leave valuable assets doing nothing whilst getting paid a fortune.

I don't agree with him being appointed at all but shit happens nopw it's just a case of wait and see what happens and hopefully we are all sitting her in 6 months chewing on a huge slice of humble pie.

I am renewing my ST next week. I have huge reservations about AM. I do not dislike him as a person but I do not rate him as a Manager- like many have said tonight, please prove me wrong.

The biggest shame for me in all this is how Randy and GK have been made to look in the media throughout this, the trust they have lost with many supporters and the misplaced hatred they will find in some Villa fans.

Its seemingly all done now. So lets get behind the team, hopefully a few good signings and a nice sunny day to start the season, and a home win.

It's gone beyond questions and you know it.
We have too many people on this site who can't distinguish between a question and a rant.
Besides, he knows the strength of feeling, what would be the point of him saying anything now, it would just be dismissed as bullshit with a load of fucks thrown in for free.

As for Facebook, was that really him?

I tried to post words to this effect earlier in about 7 paragraphs and gave up. You have put it in words far better than I would, totally agree.

I appreciate we're all trying to accept McLeish, but I'm not prepared to cross that bridge just yet. Instead, I bring you a quote from another forum I frequent:

In my time watching English football, Newcastle and City have always been good value for comedy, especially Newcastle. Spurs have had their moments and the last five years at West Ham have been pretty special. Right now, we appear to have a new member banging on the door. Come in, Aston Villa.

I'd have once dismissed this out of hand. Following the last couple of weeks/year I'm not sure I can.

Pointless appointment if you ask me. Doomed from the start.

To have any chance of winning over the support, McLeish is going to have to exceed all expectations but with his track-record and penchant for anti-football, it's extremely unlikely he's got it in him.
