IF and I sate IF they have broken the gates, then for me they lose the remaining credibility they had. You don't vandalise your own clubs property under ANY circumstances.
If RL appoints AM that is vandalising the club!

Bodymoor Heath was a prime example of that this morning.

There is always a slight doubt that it could of been Blues fans doing that. This lot though are there with their Villa tops on, no denying that. If its true, shame on you.

Gaaah! I'd been planning to name my as-yet-unborn son Alex before all this furore started! Maybe I should've gone with Carlo or Jose instead!

It may not count as intelligent debate, but fans are choosing a way of showing how strongly they feel about this situation. The gates and a bit of paint can be fixed in a few hours. Appointing a manager of AM's ability could cause the club untold damage, long term. Everyone can see that, as expressd so eloquently in the Guardian article posted earlier today! And I aasume the writer was NOT a Villa fan!!

What I find really surprising is that, having spent five years cultivating such excellent relations with the supporters, they've gone and do the one thing they could realistically do which would do more damage to those relations than anything else.

Looked at purely on the "what would it do to the relationship between club and fans" level, and ignoring the footballing rights or wrongs of it, a couple of weeks ago I would have banked my house on the club never thinking about making an appointment like this, so acutely aware have they been of the value of PR.

Could be the first step towards selling the club.
It feels like a real self inflicted sabotage.

It increasingly looks like that, doesn't it?

They might be naive in certain matters pertaining to football attitudes in this country, but they're not stupid.

There has to be a logical reason somewhere in selecting such a blatantly unpopular choice, happily ignoring his record, his affiliation to that lot and all the rest. Or perhaps they're not ignoring it. Maybe that's the deal clincher for them.

I still hope that common sense will prevail and this is all part of an elaborate show to cover negotiations for Moyes or Hughes.  Or maybe even Gary Mac.  The latter would have been viewed as a deeply unpopular choice a few weeks ago, but if he's announced as a Villa manager now -with the remit of carrying on GH's work - he'll be greeted like a returning hero.
Chelsea have said they expect to appoint their new manager in a fortnight. That's when Hughes can start talking to clubs  :(

I would have felt exactly the same about him in Sept. And so would thousands of other Villa fans. He was shit then, but even more so now after getting the Blose relegated AGAIN!
I'll carry on supporting my team, not the manager. We all saw what O'Leary and McNeill did to our team/club. This looks to be going the same way only even before the new man's through the door. It's a non-sensical appointment and anyone who knows anythin about football, including noses, think it's a f***in stupid move by RL
It is only a game FFS. Rangers supporters did not want him in charge and he won them over by delivering success. I could understand if SHA were relegated with many games remaining, but it was right at the death.

As I have said previously; he has equalled MON's greatest achievements in management and will do a similar, if not better, job than MON. If he becomes our manager get behind the club.

In these dark times the entertainment has been tremendous, from the classic "early warning" tactic of spray painting slogans on walls to the massed ranks of the disaffected on the Holte steps. From the "banishment to Kilmarnock" to the Great Storming of the Gates to Villa Village and from the scaling of the perimeter to Mr Whippy pitching up for badly needed trade in a typical English summer.

Marvellous fun, and probably the most entertaining sight to be seen at Villa Park for some considerable time if this appointment gets the green light.
