Well 57 people who frequent this site seem to be quite happy with the idea of McCleish as manager.

It did occur to me that a few of those could be longtime B-lose lurkers, but even so, I genuinely can't see how any Villa fan could look at his record and think 'yep, I want a bit of that.'

I voted as a joke (Cries into his tea)

He'd have been a good choice when Doug was here. I like to think our ambitions and resources are greater now. The one thing I can't understand is how a lot of the reason for Houllier was his scouting network and contacts, and how this would fit in with the idea of an Ajax-style approach (which I think would be great), yet we now seem to have gone back to the style of O'Neill-lite.

If you take aside his involvement at Blues which doesn't bother me in the slightest (I know it does for many though) I think that it is what the fans see as Randy giving up in ever challenging by choosing a manager who in reality is suited to a lower mid-table PL club.  My reading of his reasonsing behind this si that Randy is now looking at an exit stategy and the first phase is employing someone who is willing to manage with a lot less funds than have previously been made available.

Whether we see a fire sale of all of our good players as a second phase will be interesting, but i would not rule it out.
Just as I said in earlier post fuse...it's the start of cost-cutting with a view to cutting long term losses. (I don't really WANT to believe this, but....) The appointment, if it happens, makes a big statement of intent that is 100% negative and nothing to do with a "shared vision" of taking the club forward. What F***in vision's that then? I have a feeling RL has given it a go, thinks it's a waste of dosh and is trying to pull out gracefully...as the actress said to the Villa director!

Has anyone on here backed this appointment?

Not 'I will back the board whatever' that's just a cop out.

Is there anybody who genuinely wants him?

I think there will be a few who will have observed how going against the grain, as Chris Smith did when O'Leary was here, can raise your site profile.

Do people like that exist?
Yeah.
Ones who support this appointment despite every rational reasoning against it.

Oh I don't know. I've been out on a limb often enough and it's only ever been because I'm expressing my opinion.

I reckon a lot of those votes are regulars on here taking the piss.

What's the difference between "Sir Alex" and tens of thousands of Villa fans?

One gives a flying fuck about Villa.

I hope you mean tens of thousands give a flying fuck...... :-)

Did you strongly believe your opinion, or were you just being perverse?
If it's the former, there's nothing wrong with that.

Randy looked ten years older on SSN just then. Filmed in London today (apparently)
I don't think I can blame Randy for all this, he knows next to fuck all about football, I think he's been very badly advised.

I don't want to either but, regardless of his lack of football knowledge, he should have known enough about our fans to know that it would take a pretty special manager to cross the divide from a relegated Blues.

He looked shaken, let's hope he's seen sense.

The worrying thing is that the % for the Ginger Tosser is creeping up! FFS WHY?

Maybe he believed it would be okay because one of his lickspittles convinced him it would be hunky dory.
We may never know.

Maybe it's beacause I don't want to, but I don't believe that.

We'll know by 1st September anyway.

I wonder how much we'd have to achieve under Mcleish for him to be accepted. Top 6? 4? 1? The League or FA Cup?

Talks have been productive and will continue this evening, according to SSN, and no announcement tonight. Promising?

If he starts playing decent football rather than defensive, drab anti-football then I think you will find alot of people will get behind him.
