Hogwash. The media are printing rubbish about us because they know nothing at all. The ambition is still the same IMO.

I think the ambition is still the same, which will be either proved or disproved by that funds the new manager is given, but if it is McLeish then what may have changed is our faith in the board to know how to go about fulfilling that ambition.

He'd have been a good choice when Doug was here. I like to think our ambitions and resources are greater now. The one thing I can't understand is how a lot of the reason for Houllier was his scouting network and contacts, and how this would fit in with the idea of an Ajax-style approach (which I think would be great), yet we now seem to have gone back to the style of O'Neill-lite.

Then McLeish's own contract with Villa would be worth in the region of £2 million a year at a conservative estimate.

I said he'd get £40k pw in an earlier post, I reckon a 3 year contract F365 say 4.

Either way it's a huge fuck up when you factor in the MON and Houllier payouts.

The biggest slap in the face, after the money the board have pissed up the wall, will be when they say we can't shell out on any big transfers.

Apparently Leonardo is leaving Inter. Maybe Moratti will try a twelfth hour swoop for McLeish!

Presumably this sort of things would be discussed during the interview.  Or maybe Randy has looked at the results and decided 'focus on the nest game' approach gets more points on the board?  Shortsighted if so as what Houllier was trying to impliment takes a few years to bear fruit.

I believe they want somebody who is committed to the challenge, and AM will be that person IMO. McCleish knows this is a great opportunity and will bring all that he has within him.

Remember AM has equalled MON's biggest achievements in management and for the majority of time has had less funding.

I fear the same. But, is RL trying to prove some kind of a point but in a really fukt up way? Showing some kind of gritty, hard-nosed, businessman behaviour? He will HAVE to back whoever HE chooses. The problem we all have is that we can't see (and neither can anyone with any sense!) WHY THE F**K he chooses McLeish as his example of meaning business!

Out of interest, how much did they pay out to MON? Has it been revealed?

Hey Henry Cecil, Heathens aren't fickle at all are they?

Your best finish in the top flight in FIFTY YEARS AND YOU WON A CUP (although we've won it 5 times) yet all you knuckle draggers wanted him gone? And we're the ficle ones? HAHAHAHA. McLeish was the best manager you ever had yet you still aren't pleased, why do you think you deserve better - even Huddersfield Town have won more than you!

P.S. Atleast we haven't always been a half arsed which has never been famous.

P.P.S You pathetic League 2 standard turnout against Rochdale has everything do with it. You laugh at our turnout when your average attendance is probably the capacity of the Holte End! Even Wigan wouldn't sink that low to have such a tiny crowd

Enjoy the Championship, please stay down there and rot with your 6,000 attendances, in the meantime we'll take Foster and Johnson off you as they want to play for a BIG CLUB.

I think the first player he signs (if appointed) that doesn't come from Blose will give us a good indication of what to expect.

Would you think me silly if I said "he ain't been appointed yet, and never might be"?

Safety first.

Randy and Co are, as GH said, probably traumatised, and have realised now that the risk of relegation is always close, and that the margins between top and bottom are small.
Last season has demonstrated that, whilst the Ajax model may look good in practice, and lead you to the holy grail on a budget, if it goes wrong, it can really go wrong.

At least adopting the MON model, if it all goes right, you get top 6, and even a sniff at top 4. And if it goes wrong, you will probably only slip to mid-table mediocrity.

Has anyone on here backed this appointment?

Not 'I will back the board whatever' that's just a cop out.

Is there anybody who genuinely wants him?

I wouldn't want Ellis back in a million years, but even he wouldn't have found himself having to shell out massive compo payments to 2 ex-managers, and then fumble around for a sub-standard replacement from our rivals.

The board have totally and utterly lost it.

Whoever is to blame should be ousted double quick.
