The General deserves it to be fair, he's just a PR guy who makes out he's one of us.

He deserves abuse? I think not.

Depends what you term as abuse.  He, and the rest of the board are rightly getting an awful lot of criticism which is both justified and correct in my opinion.  Ourtright abuse is a different kettle of fish and of course isn't warranted.

The General has been on the board the last few nights, obviously to garner opinion, but hasn't seen fit to post.

It's just as well, whenever he has anything to say on something that actually matters he seems to stick his foot in it.

Seems the Villa post is a bit of a poisoned chalice and our options are obviously limited. Not fatalism but just a realistic assessment from a supporter of 40 years standing.

That's a very good point, Simon. We must be for various reasons one of the toughest jobs around. Our expectations I believe are realistic, as we certainly have the potential, we've either had the right manager but no money, the right money but the wrong manager or we've just failed to go just that one extra step when it was obvious that wasall be needed to succeed.

The modern history of Aston Villa is a never ending book of missed opportunities.

Rightly so, send them to st Andrews never to return.

Just looking at AM's Wicki profile. Appears he was, at one time, training to become an accountant. Perhaps that is the bit of his CV that appeals to Randy. Capable of keeping the cash flow under control.

Preferable to MON who after his discontinued legal studying learnt enough to sue everyone left right and centre, and become highly proficient at running up big costs and disbursements.

If it's an accountant they want, then they only had to ask.  I haven't completed my UEFA badges (but then neither had Gareth Southgate) and I'm certain I could ahem, "help" with that pesky wages and taxation figure.

On the OS Wednesday evening press section, these gems:

Quote from: OS
Express and Star: Ron Atkinson has insisted Alex McLeish can win over angry Villa fans with two bold summer signings and by putting a block on more big-name exits.
Ray Houghton says Randy Lerner must back his own judgment if he believes Alex McLeish is the right man for Aston Villa.

No mention of pesky, revolting fans. Phew!

‎1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance ...

The 5 stages of knowing McLeish is going to be our next manager. I don't know when I'll ever get to stage 5 though. At the moment I'm at stage 1 and will be for a VERY, VERY long time.

Guardian's take on us at the moment.

Nail on the head, to be honest.

First bit of decent journalism i've seen regarding this whole affair, coincidentally i agree with almost all he said.
