"Randy Lerner has more talent in his jock-strap than everyone on this cockney Villa-hating radio station"

Who sent that in haha?

I may be diving in at the deep end but. Surely everything we here from the media is utter bull up until we get something concrete from club them selves.

I hope something comes out soon. But until then, No-one should believe a word that is said, Remember Benitez and Ancelotti were both dead cirts for the job two weeks ago now, Its McLeish. With numerous names inbetween. Tomorrow it'll be Bob Bradley and by the weekend we'll be in the running for Jose Morinho,

Chins held high fellow villains.

Nothing is set in stone yet.

THERE IS STILL TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terrible paper, but I do like this (unfortunately accurate) quote

Quote
Why is it that Fulham were able to line up Martin Jol effectively within 48 hours?

Villa have had the best part of two months - and still they fumble about like a teenager groping in the dark for a bra-strap.

How is it accurate?  Villa may have considered possibilities, but would have took no action until the GH situation was resolved, rightly in my opinion.

Plus, Fulham were after Jol since last summer when Ajax wouldn't let him leave, so most of their groundwork was already done.
Surely the Villa Job is a bigger one than the Fulham one though, John? Its been vacant longer than the Fulham one too. If we didnt at least ask Jol if he was interested (along with others), before he took the Fulham job, I would be extremely disappointed. I know discussions had possibly taken place last year between tghe two parties, but nothing would have been set in stone at that point, or even two weeks ago.

Pannu now claiming mcleish has 'invented bullshit allegations against the board so he can walk away without having to pay a penny compensation' - surely pannu would be better washing his dirty linen in private.

The Blues have never done "private".

If it were down to me then Jol would have been pretty high on the list of candidates.  But the point was about the timescale of their appointment as opposed to ours.  They wanted him before and still did, plus he was now out of work, so it was a relatively simple process to say "Still interested, Martin?  Good - sign this."

I'd imagine Rastamouse would be a better choice as a joint manager anyway

OK lets all calm down a bit

We all know that the club do things in a professional way, either we asked for permission to speak to AM, Blues said no so he resigned OR we don't care about AM and were simply replying to accusations that we were being under hand. When the news about Martinez broke and it looked like he had turned us down the club issued a statement saying we hadn't even been offered the job. They have said nothing officially about McLeish or tried to defend themselves against accusations from the sty, why ? Because there is nothing to defend. All we have said is "piss off noses, if we want to talk to him we will, he is a free agent, don't tell us ASTON VILLA who we can and can't talk to, now piss off back to the lower leagues" There is no way Randy would spoil his reputation by acting like this
As for what the General may or may not have said, if it was real the way I read it was if the board think he is the right man for the job then we will appoint him, we will not let the fans pick him.
Whoever gets the job will have his lovers and his hatters so in someone's eyes the board will have got it wrong.
If Doug was still in charge you can bet your boots that every link would have been answered with "we would have made him the highest paid manager in the world but he wouldn't come" or something along those lines.
My big fear is that Randy will get fed up with the abuse and put us up for sale and where would that leave us. At the end of the day he owns the club (that is what us fans wanted if I remember) and is free to run it how he wishes.
If, and I still think its a big if, he does appoint McLeish then on his head be it.
Maybe I am trying to convince myself but I just can't see the club behaving in this way.

@Dr Peters, The point about RL and his departing, he's a businessman first and foremost, the last thing he is going to do is become emotional, throw a hizzy fit and say I'm pissed of with this abuse I'm ditching Aston Villa, he makes money out of Villa, one way or another, thats his prime concern.

He makes no money out of Villa...on the contrary

Of course he makes money out of Villa  :o may not come in a way that is measured in terms of the bottom line, but he gets what he needs, no problem.

Ph*cking hope he does, he's a moron if he doesn't.

I really don't see how he does

There is no way Randy will ever get back what he has invested unless we play in the Champions League for a few years. If he is that bothered about making money why did we have the name of a charity on shirt for 2 years ? He does not need the money and he does not need a load of people who a few years ago saw him as a savior now telling him he is clueless and doesn't know what he is doing. Whether we like it or not he owns the club 100% and therefore has the right to decide who he employs, we may be fans and paying customers but he is the owner end of story.
This hysteria is a joke, I am more inclined to believe we have our man and the reason its taking so long is due to negotiations with back room staff.

Not disagreeing, but there was a period of time between us needing a manager, and Hughes going back on his word to Al Fayed that he would stay, that we could have asked him (Jol).

As he's put XXX millions of his own money into Villa, surely the only way he could ever hope to make money out of the club is by selling it for a hell of a lot more than he paid for it.

That and the interest due on money he has lent to Villa for player purchases.
