Villa must not make a poor appointment now. If this whole sorry mess has said anything about the way the club is run it is this: silence and media black outs, whilst comendable and honourable, in football causes nothing but negative press, ferocious internet speculation, and fan disaffection.

Also, whoever they appoint I hope it's for a very long time. Both last Aug-Sept and this June suggest that I never want to see this Board try and search for a new manager again. It's the most painful thing in the world.

That said, I hope beyond reason that they do not appoint McLeish. As much as it would be nice to be over and done with this process, his football is so negative and poor it would be miserable to watch.

From Houllier to this?

All over the national news about the compensation and the official approach, turned on bloody Smooth radio and it was even announced on there. Have a feeling it's game over lads.....

The fact we appear to have bombed our Houllier to replace him with McLeish leads me question the sanity of the board.

Apparently if as reported mcleish sues for constructive dismissal then he is free to take a new job now and it will be sorted between him and blues in the courts at a later date , but by taking a job he waives any right to compensation should he win his claim.

If we appoint him it would be an absolute joke and a disaster of an appointment.

Perhaps we are waiting for Glen Hoddle to get someone to run his Soccer School so he can come and save us from this hell.

That's the most disturbing thing. You get rid of Houllier who was starting to improve the team and get us playing better since the signing of Bent to hire a manager who just recently got his team relegated again.

I'm putting myself in Randy's shoes and I can't see how he'd come to such an illogical decision.

I feel so sorry for Houllier. He should of stayed.

I won't believe it until I see him walking through Villa Park with a scarf around his neck. We've been here before, the press have been 'certain' it would be other managers over the past few weeks. Mind you it was the same guessing game last summer and who would have predicted we would end up with GH???

Have we got a definitive answer about that statement by the General on Facebook?

If it is genuine, then I seriously think he's lost it.

The man has had repeated dissecting aortic aneurysms, the next one could very well kill him and you want him to have stayed in one of the most high pressure jobs in the world? Keeping Houllier on would be signing his death warrant, i'm glad we got rid of him for the sake of his health.

Hold the fort here, I'm a little confused!  Following posts from MM on the feelings of Randy towards the way Mark Hughes went about leaving his job at Fulham... is the 'McLeish Story' not identical if not a little worse?

Mark Hughes activates a legitimate 'get out clause' on his contract.  Its was talked about for weeks leading up to his departure and one can only assume he has sat down with his chairman and agreed to leave.

McLeish sends an email out of the blue whilst Pannu is away in Holland negotiating a deal he has agreed with McLeish.

I think if we have discounted MH for reasons of disloyalty and 'up and leaving'..... then forget everything else about our current bookies favourite, we should be doing the same for McLeish!

Yes, but how many supporters lives would be at risk if McLeish is appointed?
The veins are throbbing in our temples as it is.

Whilst I find it laudable that a number of people have posted and stated that the club goes on no matter who is in charge and that we should give our support to whomever is standing in our dugout and although I wish that every Villa fan felt the same, the reality is that this is not the case. A large and vocal section of our fans turned on Houllier when he waved at the Kop and he never recovered. Those same section of fans were happy to boo the team ten minutes into the Wolves home game whilst a banner hung from the Holte End telling Houllier to go. It is inconceivable that those same set of fans will give McLeish a chance no matter what we may think he bring to the party.
I can say with certainty that if I took a snapshot of the people I sat next to every home game on the Holte End since it was rebuilt and before I moved abroad, there would be nothing but negativity to this appointment and it would not take very much at all for them to turn and accuse our manager of being a Bluenose....... You may find it distasteful, disloyal, fickle and small minded but its cold hard reality.

I still reckon that all of this is nothing but bulls*** and Hughes will be unveiled within a couple of weeks and I suspect given the speculation and general bedwetting over the managerial appointment, most will be ecstatic.
