you old cynic clampy!

gervilla, what was the football quality like under him at rangers?

I wouldn't know as I really couldn't watch Scottish football. Unlike a lot of my compatriots I couldn't give a shit about the whole Celtic / Rangers bullshit.

according to mysteryman hughes was never in the picture , something in his cv from the past that ruled him out apparently?

McLeish has something on his CV which rules him out as well.  The words BIRMINGHAM and CITY.

I'm glad we didn't sign that useless bastard Peter Withe then.

And when did Peter Withe manage us?  Or Blues for that matter?

I can see the point your trying to make but taking their players is one thing (albeit very rare as well) but getting their managers is another.  Even if it is their most sucessful manager in years, if not ever.

Nobody moaned when we got Ron Atkinson and he used to manage our local rivals.

I see many arguments for not appointing McLeish but if the main reason is because he used to be involved with Blues, that makes us as small-time as them, in my opinion.

I agree my comment was quite flippant.  There are a million reasons why we shouldn't appoint him from a footballing point of view but I cant get out of my head the backlash the board and us as fans will get if we do appoint the manager of Blues which would put a downer on the season before a ball is kicked.

If Blues' manager was Roy Hodgson, I'd welcome him with open arms.  But it isn't.  It's a bloke who was relegated on 2 of the 3 seasons he's had in the premier league and id remowed for negative defensive tactics.  The blues aspect of it is just the icing on the very shit cake.

Fair enough. I keep trying to convince myself of positives to the (potential) appointment, but I admit I am struggling.

Agree Dave, it's all about context.  We've just had a relatively shit season, we keep selling our best players and so we're looking for an appointment to suggest that we can get back to being a decent top 6 side at least.  If Blues had just had a good season, and were managed by somebody top notch, if he walked out on them to join us I imagine most fans would enjoy that fact.  The fact that McLeish is a crap manager, who buys shit players, plays shit football and has relegated Blues twice is as you say, a shit frosting on a dog turd muffin.

well considering the speed they reeled out a hughes denial when he resigned, the silence is deafening.

I think its true, and i really don't want it to be.

i really hope a decision is made very soon, the longer it goes on the more ridiculed we will be - surely the process must be nearing its conclusion?
The most important aspect is not to panic, even if the media is putting pressure on the club to response. What have Aston Villa said or done today? Nothing. It is pure speculation Babygirl.

I really do not care if the Media want to continue their spouting of rubbish, it will make no difference to who we appoint in the end.

Onwards and upwards peeps.
Right on Iago. I want us to appoint someone leftfield and brilliant which will show the journo wankers that they knew fuck all all along and confirm what wankers they are!
Affirmative. I believe it will be myself.
Iago is obviously an alias for.....????? Rijkaard!

BFR was a top manager & his teams played attractive attacking football.
The football played by Blues was, even by their standards, shocking. The worst football in the PL and that says something with Stoke in competition.

Rijkaard

Thats all Dutch to me !

The management of Frank rich man denies that the Dutch oefenmeester becomes employed at Aston villa. " We have had absolutely no contact with villa. There plays of everything, but not Aston Villa" , Rijkaards says matter observer in a response against the Daily Star
That clears that one up then!!??

Did they? I know Hughes said he hadnt had any contact from another team etc but did we actually comment? I may of missed it, but I don't think we did.

Hi all

Long time lurker on here but I thought I would come and join the party.  Being on here is my form of therapy while all this 'who's going to be the next manager' is going on.  I do know that I am not going to get much done at work tomorrow as I will be keeping a watching eye on here.

I will be using our way of appointing a manager as a case study when I next teach recruitment and selection to my students though.  And what a case study it will be.

It's not really to do with his blues connections. It's that watching his blues team was unspeakably dull.

I was querying the interest in his previous club not his record.
