McLeish? I would be amazed if we went for a manager that took the shit down twice.

I think I would just cry.  This really can't happen.  Can it?

At Xmas, I was in McDonalds waiting for my car to be serviced and picked up a free paper (Daily Mail I think it was) , as I ate my Mince McPie

Mince McPie. Didn't see any of them. Any good?

I don't even like Mince pies, but I had 80p on me and they were 79p - so I had one.

And it was LOVELY ! - Check them out in 6 months - you will not be disappointed. But CJ is correct, if you are thinking of easting one on the Monday - buy it on the previous Wednesday - it may just have cooled down enough to eat by then.

Yeah, i thought that i was going to need plastic surgery after eating one of their apple pies once, so would be wary. I'll make a mental note to look out for them this winter then. Actually a reason to look forward to christmas!!
 :)

It's going to be Moyes, stop panicking for gods sake.

Having just read the bbc's gossip column, I'm now convinced that the media know sweet fanny Adams, I'm sure the headlines I've just read are just repeats of what's been said on here...

Whilst I don't believe for one minute it is that Bluenose arse, I don't see it as Moyes at all unfortunately.

I think we need to brace ourselves to be disappointed. There are names coming into the frame now that make me yearn for Gerard Houllier.

I have no evidence to back it up at all but my gut feeling is the club are struggling now. Trying to do things in the right way is all well and good but I'm not sure it stacks up in the money fuelled Premier League. I think we miss a bit of old Doug and Steve Stride tapping up the right people behind the scenes.

hey, if we had Liverpool or ManU's squad i'd be more relaxed but the bottom line is we've lost Brad, presumably Walker, NRC, presumably Young, and possibly Downing. Thats potentially 5 first team players from a pretty average squad anyway. It can take weeks or months to conclude transfer deals to even bring us up to the level of last season.

And 5 of our better performers from last season at that!

Football these days is very much like the New Year sales.  I am of the age when New Year sales started on January 1st and everybody queued up waiting for the doors to open.  The start of New Years sales have gradually started earlier and earlier to the point where they now start on Boxing Day or even earlier.  Football has become like that with clubs not waiting for the transfer window to open (end of season for domestic transfers and 9th June for international transfers) and blatantly and effectively signing up players well before these dates.

Everybody wants everything NOW, rather than waiting for things to follow in due course.  The fans want that and the internet has no doubt fuelled that.  The media have been like that for years but it is has now been taken beyond reasonableness by some journalists and live media presenters.

The press have always wanted to get that news scoop and this led to some great investigative journalism.  However, today we are left with the media falling under three catagories (i) those that report on actual news - these are fading fast as nobody wants to wait for actual news (ii) those that take a genuine gamble on a news story to try and get that important exclusive - I have nothing against these as long as they give a fair and balanced view rather than the slanted biaised view that seems the order of the day now and, finally, (iii) those reporters that just make up stories with no evidence what so ever so that they can get into print or out live their own views on life in the football world.

It is the media in the 3rd catagory above that is turning me off football.  Journalists, in particular, want to make up news, rather than report news and then want to spin it to support their own agenda.  Usually, they comment on people or clubs that are not given a fair forum to respond.  These journalists think they can influence the way events unfold and ultimately drive people to make the decisions that the journalists want to happen.  Whether it be a footballer going to a certain club by constantly reporting links, whether they be true or not and then exaggerating the situation, or, a certain manager taking over at a club.  Some people say that they are only doing their job as they have papers to sell but, surely, we are entitled to fact not fiction.

The manager situation is really getting to me now.  I have always been a Villa supporter and always will be.  The club is the most important thing and is above individuals so I usually support the people that run the club or manage the team and give them time to get it right.  Perhaps I back managers longer than I should but this is usually because I look more at what they are trying to achieve rather than what they are achieving.  This is my view on Randy Lerner and I will support him in the way that he feels is right in appointing a new manager.  I get annoyed at, what I believe, is unfair criticism he receives on here just because he will not work to the timetable that some people want.  Likewise, he does not have unemptying pot of gold but has a responsibility to run the club so that it works financially.

The club put out statements infrequently and usually limited in their content but if you read them carefully, they are clear and give all of the necessary facts.  They cannot be responsible for how people interpret them or twist them by not reporting them in their entirety.

I am at a loss to understand or believe so called ITKs.  No doubt there are some genuine people that do know what is going on but the vast majority are just putting out crap.  Why they do it, I do not know but I suppose they get the same kick as those that hack computers just to cause mayhem.

Two things that I have picked up from a news report and an ITK is Randy going back to America and Ashley calling off his wedding and going to Las Vegas.  What a coincidence in the way the situation of manager/player transfer is panning out.  The way things are these days, I do not fully believe either event and believe less so any link between the two events.

I would like to think that things will calm down a bit on here over the weekend and people do not back themselves into a corner with what they say and then are forced into forever posting prejudiced views through next season.  This has happened with some members after the appointment of GH.  It did not matter how much things levelled out and improved towards the end of the season with possibly a brighter future, they still had to try and undermine the manager and owner with their views.

Are we to assume we are still only considering managers with PL experience?

My memory is a little faded and I wouldn't know how to find the statement from last year but did it actually say that the manager should have PL experience or did it say the manager should have a detailed knowledge of the PL.

If the latter, this would possibly not rule out a manager that has not managed in the PL.  Football is global these days and any decent manager should have a detailed knowledge of what is happening in other countries, whether it be players (no comments on MOM, it has been done to death!) or playing styles.  The only thing that would be a negative would be understanding the way British people think (especially young British players).

Saying that, our position is slightly different to last season as others have said.  We still have 2 months of preason and 11 weeks of the transfer window to go.

Need a lie down after reading that one. So much common sense and insight into the crazy world of football that we inhabit!
