At Xmas, I was in McDonalds waiting for my car to be serviced and picked up a free paper (Daily Mail I think it was) , as I ate my Mince McPie - I sat reading a 4 page article about Steve Bruce, not just the football manager, but the man.

The whole piece was about how happy in his life he was, and he / his family are living their perfect dream. I can't remember the village he lives in , but it was obviously in the NE , and he was saying how he has the best of both worlds, the fame and fortune of football, but the normal life, where he takes his dogs for a walk on the beach, picks up a paper, goes to his local British Legion and then has a drink with the guy who was his dads best mate and has knew him since he was  a toddler.

It went on, regarding football and stuff - but it was mainly about his family.

He certainly didn't mention he lived in Lapworth, nor that he longed to come back.
Because tedious puff-pieces in the Daily Mail are always the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

So Bruce & McLeish would be interested (no surprise there)

Villa wouldn't be interested (no surprise there)

Therefore - no story!

Is it true that if our nuclear energy programme is stopped it could be replaced by the heat generated from the filling of a single Mince McPie, which would be sufficient to power the national grid for a whole year?

I think if Randy read just 10% of this thread he'd come out and tell us what's going on in the interests of preserving fan sanity.

And after this process is finished i would make paul faulkner re-apply for his job - and then not appoint him.

It seems the media aren't liking Paul F at the moment, maybe because they're not being told anything.

Bruce wouldn't be too bad. Definately better than Martinez and McClaren anyway.

Certainly McClaren.

This whole thing is getting tedious, Villa should have kept Houllier on until the replacement was found.

The 'Houllier and Villa part company' thing has caused the national 'who is Villa's next Manager going to be' debate-athon.

If we are the quiet club, the non attention seeking club, that should have been kept quiet too.

Fair enough - to be honest, I dont want him as manager, but I think is a fine man. I have always said he is the one Bluenose I just couldn't hate.

Dont get me wrong, I dont want the next scenario I am suggesting, as , as I have said, I want Ancelotti, Rijkaards, benitez's of this world. But surely to god, if we "are" now seriously considering the likes of Martinez, McLaren, Bruce, McLeish and the such like - I'd much rather give it to mcDonald and Cowans.

I know people go on about the start of the season - but it was six games !. Appointing a McLeish, you know what you get, buy average joes for 6-7m , gain mid table mediocrity pretty quickly and thats where you stay (and to be honest, even as a Villa fan, I'm flummexed how they managed to go down this year.

With Mc and Sid - it wouldn't be short term, it would be about bringing through youth - short term pain, long term gain. I could at least see the reasoning.

On the plus side , as long as we keep Downing, I think we have the forward line sorted, if Gingernut can bring Johnson and Dann with him, and we can keep Walker - maybe we wouldn't need much else

yeah - all bullshit - after signing a new 3 yr on March 4th 2011 - thats two months AFTER Bent was sold , he said

"This is the job for me. I enjoy it, it grips me,” said Bruce, who has been rewarded for an encouraging start to life as Sunderland boss with a new three-and-a-half year deal. “It’s a privilege to be Sunderland manager, it really is.

“No disrespect to the other places I’ve worked, but this is the best job I’ve had. It’s a difficult job, don’t get me wrong, but the people who run the club, the people who work here, the supporters, are fantastic. I think I’m very, very lucky when I look at the other clubs in the Premier League"

Hey, but why let the facts get in the way that he wants out of Sunderland

I don't even like Mince pies, but I had 80p on me and they were 79p - so I had one.

And it was LOVELY ! - Check them out in 6 months - you will not be disappointed. But CJ is correct, if you are thinking of easting one on the Monday - buy it on the previous Wednesday - it may just have cooled down enough to eat by then.

I think Roberto Martinez would agree.

It would be ironic if Bruce took over here after telling everyone how much he loves Sunderland. He couldn't, could he? It also shows how bad the situation is that we've now reached the point of talking about Steve Bruce.

He might just take it in order to be able to keep a closer eye on his daughter's nocturnal activities.

Looking for a positive point on this one...Nigel Spink returns home.
