When Hughes walked from fulham didn't they say we're not interested in him?

Putting local rivalry to one side, I think McLeish has been a decent manager throughout his career. He did a good job at Hibs, Rangers, the Scotland national team, and up until April he'd done a good job at Small Heath. He's had to work with limited funds there so has had to cut his cloth accordingly.

I'm actually reconsidering my opinion of McLaren. A well respected coach at Man Utd, won Middlesbrough the only cup in their history and got them to a UEFA Cup final, and won the Dutch League with Twente, their first ever title. Yes, he failed as England manager but so has every other manager since Alf Ramsey. And yes, he failed at Wolfsburg, but it was the clubs decision to sell their goal machine Edin Dzecko which did for him.

Absolute no to McLeish, let him continue with his path of destruction for Birmingham City. Mark Hughes is yer man.

Martinez probably has the same budget as McLeish yet his Wigan team play good football and they stayed up.

It doesnt matter what McLeish resources are like, the football Birmingham plays is just dire and negative. If we want to move forward that fanny certainly is not the man for the job.

McLeish would be worse than McLaren, and that takes some doing.

Moyes is back in to 3/1...but McLeish is favourite with the bookies. I can't see either happening. he's going to have to look further afield.

Us Villa fans need a reality check. We're not a top drawer attraction to the games most successful managers. Why should Ancelotti come to us at the moment? He's one of Europes most successful coaches and the Villa job would only weaken his impressive cv.
Why do we think Benitez, a man who's last job was as manager of the Champions of Europe would want to manage us with limited funds? Like Ancelotti, a spell at Villa would be a huge career gamble for him.

Our current position in the game makes Mark Hughes and Steve McLaren realistic candidates whether we like it or not. Both are ambitious, hungry young managers and will see Villa as a sleeping giant with the potential to challenge at the higher end of the table with good management.

Roberto Martinez would have been a far bigger gamble, and has been shown to be nothing more than a sentimental fool. If he was ambitious and seriously offered the chance to step up from Wigan to a club like Aston Villa he should have walked over broken glass to Villa Park. He'll never be offered a bigger job. Dave Whelan must be going senile if he thinks one of the top clubs in Europe would employ a man whose only claim to success was avoiding relegation with Wigan. Martinez will go down the same road as Alan Curbishley.

In my reality, we have a fantastic staduim, fantastic support, fantastic owner (In my eyes the best in the league) fantastic youth system (coaches and players) basically everything thats connected to Aston Villa is fantastic.

Why would we want a medcore manager to be part of all this fantastic goings on?

from what I remember a journalist said this, not the club, however when I asked a few pages back someone said it was a club statement however there is nothing on the website.

I like your reality. It's comforting to think like that. I just don't.
