I wouldn't be totally against the idea of Steve Bruce.  He's another very good British manager who suffers unfairly because of his image.

Are you taking the piss, Risso?

No.  He obviously would be a long way from my first choice, but he's probably one of the best managers out there for tapping into unheard of talent, and he could possibly do for us what Redknapp did for Spurs.

I can think of 10 other managers I'd rather have though.  Unfortunately with Lerner in charge, those ten probably aren't going to come here.

i dont get why they cancelled rafa and mclarens interviews having arranged them in the first place

Once again, did this actually happen or is it all just press speculation?  Ask others and they'll say we did meet Rafa, but wouldn't give him enough cash to spend.

I want to believe Randy has had it sorted for a while and all these also rans are just press talk.
If it is Hughes and it is negotiations with ex-club or difficulties arising therefrom well get on with it.  stop faffing Randy. I don't particularly like Hughes but will accept if it is way forward. Benitez would be ideal choice now. Maybe he popped over to Corsica to see Randy at Houllier's home? or was it Moyes?

Great location to keep away from prying eyes and inquisitive ears..

I want a spectacular appointment..clean with no strings attached! Onward and upward..

That's taking the piss.

Talk about bashing the chairman when there's no need to. Would you rather Ellis? Not everyone can have an owner that spends shit loads, and if we're to not have one of them, the there's probably nobody better than RL.

As for the 10 other managers, how many of those are managers that would ever come to Villa, unless we had an unlimited supply of money?

You're happy when we're shit and not happy when we're looking good (I remember the endless amount of grief MON got whilst at the club - it was never good enough for you). I bet you loved last season and the current situation!

Now you've moved on to the chairman - get a grip!

I'm very far from happy when we're shit, thanks, and I'm exceedingly happy when things are on the up for us.  If you're going to make stuff up, go away and do it elsewhere.

I personally like all the pissing about with the media, just makes them look foolish.
Our Football Club and chairman have been praised for the way we do business, we got the same feedback when we bought Delph from Leeds, and also in my opinion how the Barry situation was handled was excellent.
Randy Lerner and his team are no fools, as long as we get the right man in the end, we will come out of this well.
Time will tell.

But after the debacle that was the Houllier appointment (the process and the end result) I struggle to share your optimism.

There must be 50 names on the list the bookies have odds for. I could honestly not rule anyone out on the list given we have no idea who or what they are ooking for.

I firmly believe Moyes has been their number one target and that they probably continue to try and get him. As far as a left field suggestion from me if they are looking into the build a legacy ideaology then one name who could work is Glenn Hoddle - has baggage but he was a fantastic player, has managed England and aside from the obvious did a decent job imo, managed in the Prem and for last two years has been working wiht young players released from clubs and trying to develop them so they cna get back in the game.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but he ticks many of the boxes.

I think he should have a re-think and abandon the interview approach in favour of a 'The Apprentice' style selection process.  Randy takes the role of Sir Alan Sugar, Faulkner is the slag and the General can be that Nick bloke.

Task 1 - who can come cloest to the new Dwight Yorke on a tour of Trinidad and Tabago.
Task 2 - Getting more than 50p and a packet of crisps for Beye.
Task 3 - Getting Dunne to Weightwatchers classes.

I think you're getting the general idea here.

Too late!

I posted this idea several days ago, I held tentative talks with BBC, ITV, SKY, they all turned me down...

then went to, my real first choice, 5, they turned me down....

Dave is next to be on my interviewed list.

Glenn Hoddle?? Oh dear, dear God!

Just read the last 20 pages and I made sure I didn't check any other website to see breaking news on Villa's new manager to be "..." and all I can say is thank god for that, no Martinez and we are still looking. Yes we have handled ourselves well and Wigan's chairman has had a laugh at our expense but we will find a great candidate, I have faith in Randy and so should you.

We are also forgetting an important factor here. The bookies are making a mint and Sky have a vested interest with their own online service.
What is happening is they are turning a three -horse race into the Grand National. Taking loads of bets at short odds and by having a new favourite each day -they cannot lose. Its like backing 10 horses in the same race all at 11-10.
