OK..just new headline on F365..too many posts to keep up with here..
They are taking the piss out of us..that is the point.
We need an outstanding appointment now..

I suspect the decision has been made and the likes of Martinez know it!

right lets interview hughes and benitez- offer fayed some cash if hughes is our man but lets stop fannying around and get either rafa or hughes who are both proven- why do we always get a long drawn out drama with appointing someone- good players are moving in the transfer market and we will miss out because we have no manager- sort it randy and fast!

I wouldn't be totally against the idea of Steve Bruce.  He's another very good British manager who suffers unfairly because of his image.

I agree.

Whether we offered him the job is immaterial.

No it isn't.

In the great scheme of things, immaterial is 284 pages of hypothesising as to who may or may not be the next manager.  Immaterial is the live odds that tell us we are about to appoint every manager under the sun depending on the latest bullshit SSN "story".  A candidate actually being offered the job (if that is what happened) is  about as relevant as it could possibly get.

EDIT:  I understand where you are coming from but I think it matters immensely whether we actually tried to get him or not as it would be a sad indictment if we did and he turned us down.

Wow this search is tiresome!  Just think, when an appointment is made we will have to go through all this again to find a manager for our Ladies team too!!  MM, any news on that one?

 ;)

I think he should have a re-think and abandon the interview approach in favour of a 'The Apprentice' style selection process.  Randy takes the role of Sir Alan Sugar, Faulkner is the slag and the General can be that Nick bloke.

Task 1 - who can come cloest to the new Dwight Yorke on a tour of Trinidad and Tabago.
Task 2 - Getting more than 50p and a packet of crisps for Beye.
Task 3 - Getting Dunne to Weightwatchers classes.

I think you're getting the general idea here.

Lets just all take a chill pill shall we.

People are saying "the players will know the new manager is 2nd choice"

So, you must know more than the rest of us, coz I haven't a bloody clue who it is going to be.

And no matter what Sky / Talkshite and some on here say.

If I see Ancelotti , Van Gaal , Rijkaard , Moyes , Ranieri , Benitez or someone similar to these.

I really wouldn't have thought they were 2nd choice behind a manager who has won 23 games in 87  - do you.

Let's just wait and see shall we.

You're all selling yourselves short. What kind of talk in McClaren, Bruce and Curbishley?

We're looking at the level of manager of Van Gaal, Rafa, Quique Sanchez Flores. Martinez was a nobody far down on the list that we thought it might be worth having a chat with. Curbishley, McClaren and other such rejects aren't even being considered by the Villa so why are you all so assured that it is going to be one of them?

As far as we are concerned, we have contacted Rafa and have him on our shortlist. We're taking our time over things and having as many managers in as possible to interview and see which one will fit in right at Villa.

The media have no idea what's going on and they're printing stories out of their arses. They made up something about £60m wanted by Rafa, things about McClaren being first choice, Martinez to be appointed in 24 hours and ran with it.

I would suggest everyone take a deep breath, forget about it and trust in Randy to bring in a top quality manager after interviewing them all. We're in no rush, we have plenty of time to get a new man and Randy is just making sure we have the best man for the job.

Whatever the reality was regarding Martinez being 1st or 7th choice (as someone confidently stated) this whole fiasco has and is a PR disaster, especially when you throw in Ashley being as good as gone, Fulham appointing Jol with minimum of fuss and Liverpool (supposed rivals) spending £20 million on players.

I know the standard reaction is " I dont give a f*** what the media say" and for the most part I agree.

But the longer this goes on, the more of a jokeshop we appear and this will not help us when trying to strengthen our squads.

Everything is about perception and headlines these days and at the moment we look like a club that no one wants to manage and with a board who dont know what they are doing. Regardless of the truth that's what it looks like. This is going to add pressure to whoever the new man is and put doubts in the minds of any potential signings.

The last appointment was handled abysmally, this looks like it is going the same way and I cant help but wonder where we would be if MON hadnt been in place when Radny took over and he had to go find a manager himself!

Or maybe......

Its been identified that Villa stopped looking at McLaren after an internet rebellion - well I started the thread about it on this site

And after my 4 hour rant last night about how crap Martinez was and I cant believe people want him - Martinez rules himself out.

Who shall I start on next - Curbishley I think !
