Martinez was someone who interested us. We therefore approached Whelan and asked for permission. If he hadn't decided to open his mouth no one would be discussing this right now.

How this is a gaffe on our part is beyond me.

Because everything that happens is our fault and everything we do is wrong.

Not everything is our fault by any means, but this statement just makes us look desperate - "ooh, no, he didn't turn us down, we didn't offer it!" shortly after saying how much we coveted him.

Randy has been fantastic in putting the money up, but I'm afraid for a while now the club has been run like an absolute shambles.

The Houllier appointment was an embarassing mess from the off, and got worse throughout the season, and this is starting to look farcical, I'm afraid.

If they now emerge from this with someone like Curbishley, it'll serve us right, frankly.

The odds are going up and then down, the odds are going up then down! Just a reminder to the fun we had on the last day of the season.

Very low odds being made available on McLeish all of a sudden.

Surely not Curbs who we interviewed and rejected last time. I just can't believe we'd do that. I undestand we were disctintly unimpressed with both Curbs and SGE.

And look what happens when we don't say anything.

Relax it wont be either of those. I think this EPL experience was just a requirement for last year because of the situation. dont believe it applies now. My guess would be Quique Sanchez Flores.

I think Dave Whelan was very cute over this.
He accepted a private request to talk with his manager and made it public whilst at the same time bigging us up for doing things the 'right way'. He was lauded for being a true gentleman, when in fact he was being a smart, manipulative so and so.
we did not even get to talk to Martinez, who i am sure will be a fine manager in years to come, but would not have been the right man for us at this stage in his career or given the place we are in as a club. Good luck to him, he has an improved contract.
Villa have issued very few staements, and all of us are paying too much attention to the media talk trying to fill the vacuum left by the relative silence maintained by our club.
As far as I am concerned no one has turned us down as we have not made any offers, but I am convinced that Mark Hughes will take over, I just am not sure if we will have to wait given his contractual position.
In passing can we stop paying attention to Pat Murphy, not worth the effort to press the keyboard in my opinion.
Stay positive guys, we are the Villa after all, and will come thru this better off than before.

...judging by post-match appearance:
best: Ian Dowie (good faces all-round)
worst: Mick McCarthy (lucky/clueless)

I'm not too sure what the club have done wrong here (well, apart from going after Martinez in the first place ;-)). We have a shortlist of managers we would like to speak to. We only knew of one of them because Dave Whelan revealed it. That manager decided he doesn't want to be considered. The club officially announce it.

Is that really that bad?
