So guys I've been away for the last 5 hours... Any updates?

My niece dislocated her knee on monday and was very upset when told she wouldn't be allowed entry to see Arctic Monkeys on friday on crutches, they are her favourite modern beat combo. I made a phonecall to my mate which lead to a phonecall to the band management and hey presto she will go to the ball.

So, in the last couple of hours i've become a very popular Uncle.

Chris'll fix it for you...

I also had to break the bad news to my brother that he had to go as well though.

I reckon Martinez is a ploy so that we will all be relieved when McClaren is unveiled.

It won't work.

I've said all along that the first thing we did was leak McClaren's name so that whoever we got we would be relieved it wasn't him.

On a positive note, maybe the Madrid thing suggests Quique Sanchez Flores who has just left Atletico.

There is some merit in this idea, primarily because most fans (myself included) will not have a clue how good or bad he is.  Therefore they'll probably give him a go rather than having too many preconceived ideas.

Whelan claims to have been asked for permission o chat 9 days ago by letter. If thats true then:
a] how many other chairmen had a letter and have kept stum.
b]can he really believe that Martinez was first choice.
c]why has he opened up on it all, admittedly with nice comments?
Somehow it sounds wrong!

Whelan's a self-promoting media whore with a hotline to Sky like them lot at West Ham.  Must be a small club thing.

I just dont get it, I just dont get it at all.

IF its all true, we appoint Martinez because he is young, will nurture young talent at our club and bring on the fruits of our youth side instead of spending a fortune on overpaid average players, and is hungry for success - have I got this right ?

Can I ask one question then

WHY THE F......G HELL DIDN'T WE APPOINT, OR APPOINT NOW, MCDONALD AND COWANS !!!!!!

It's no more a risk, they have acheived in their own way, just as much as Martinez, and at least they know what we need.

This is why appointments like McLaren and Martinez make no sense.

Seriously Villa, if you are reading this - go and get a top quality manager - and if not, give it to people who care about the club !

Going back to my ST debate that people find humourous - I'd grumble, but I'd get one if it was Mac and Sid - even if it is just for the fact "I want my own to do well"

He's done a great job for his club and his town but he is Mr Rent-a-quote. Makes Doug look shy and retiring.

I like him:

Quote
Whelan praised the way in which Villa have conducted themselves after giving his permission for talks, and insisted Martinez is destined to manage at the highest level.

"I would say to Aston Villa fans that your club have been superb and so honest," said the 74-year-old.
