Schteve has now stated that in fact he has had no contact with anyone from Villa at all! Good grief!

That's on the SkySports website, by the way.

Tim Abraham is also rehashing that Benitez / transfer budget story now, along with the Independent 'Martinez will say no' line, which suggests that he, too, does not have a clue what is going on.

Well, I definitely have no clue at all! It's good fun, though!

So, I suppose we should expect the unexpected - perhaps it could still be any of the names that have been bandied about.

Jonzy85 he was managing Wigan, Who do you expect him to buy? I think he operated within his parameters

Obviously I would not have expected him to be going out buying established internationals etc.

But look at the above list. Most of them played little to no football, so were clearly not cut out for the Premier League.

Given the fact that Bruce managed to sign the likes of N'Zogbia, Rodallega, Figuero, Palacios, Valencia while in the same job I dont see why we are going for the man who was unable to sign any players approacing their quality.

So, we're back to nobody knows anything...

Fuck me, it's like the KGB have infiltrated the club and media spreading a disinformation Maskirovka to confuse us before the T72s start rolling through the Fulda Gap.

Believe me this is not over yet! I think the club is playing some games with the media.

I have a feeling it is going to be Klinsmann.

Wigan Athletic Transfers under Martinez

Winter 2011 Transfers
 In:
Gustavo Adrian Lopez (From Deportivo La Coruna)

Summer 2010 Transfers
 In:
Mauro Boselli (undisclosed, Estudiantes La Plata)

January 2010 Transfers
 In:
Vladimir Stojković (loan, Sporting Lisbon)
Gary Robert Caldwell (free, Celtic)
Lohoré Steve Ulrich Gohouri (free)
Victor Moses (undisclosed, Crystal Palace)
Marcelo Moreno Martins (loan, Shakhtar Donetsk)

Summer Transfers 2009
 In:
Jordi Gómez García-Penche (Jordi Gomez )
Jason Kelvin Scotland (£2m, Swansea City)
Jamie McCarthy (£1.2m, Hamilton Academical

Take out James McCarthy and it doesnt make pretty reading at all!

Boselli was rumoured to be between £6-7 million as well. So I am sorry if I cant buy into this new Wenger theory...there is nothing to back it up!

So basically five cash transfers - McCarthy, Moses, Boselli, Scotland, Gomez. 2 very good young players who will probably eventually be sold for far more than bought for, 2 cheap Championship players who didn't really step up and one expensive flop. Plus two solid players (for Wigan) on frees. The rest are loans.

No, not the new Wenger, but equally not an awful record on the resources he has.

I suppose we can reasonably assume that Wigan won't be the only team to have received a letter from Villa, just that the usually shy and retiring Dave Whelan is the only/first chairman to go public with it.

Which means that you could expect a similar letter to equally have been sent to Bill Kenwright, Mohammed Al Fayed and so on. It also suggests, along with the club statement, that we're a way off a final decision yet. And of course, to speak to a fair number of people is naturally going to take a while - we've only been looking for a week or so.

Think I'll go out for a walk!

I havent considered Martinez as favourite at any point, because it doesn't add up to me. I just don't see why he was a candidate to begin with. If he was, that is.

Maybe Faulkner has gone up the road with a cart shouting "bring out yer managers"?

And why Whelan seems quite keen to let him have talks.
That is a quite horrendous transfer record.

No, I believe it is Ray Davies this year.
