Main advantage is Benitez won't be coming if we're doing things on the cheap so shows Lerner is still ambitious.

possibly a bit out of date now, but worth a read if Coyle's name re-appears as a target.

Well I'd be Releaved it isn't Mclaren, but I am very wary of Rafa as our manager.

Pat Murphy just on Radio 5 reporting that McClaren's meeting with Randy, scheduled for tomorrow, has been cancelled.

And he's blamed ill-informed fans on messageboards for blackening the name of "a sound manager".

Usual anti-Villa undertones from MON's representative on the BBC.

I will be pleased but as I posted elsewhere, it is going to mean some serious humble pie eating on my behalf in front of the family who still remember my hatred for the guy over the Barry affair. For quite a long time, he and Candle Face were the only two managers I hit the mute button for whenever they were interviewed on TV

Oh, and now it is just Candle Face...

Unless they are just getting candidates together and see if they're interested in the job. I'd like to think Rafa's not first choice but back up incase we don't get Moyes or Coyle.

I do not believe this for one minute, but if it is true; good!

Very clever of the club to release McClaren's name to the media as a serious possibility. It ensured that whoever got the job would have extra goodwill and support for basically not being Steve The Dutchman.

Very happy if it's Rafa. The right man at the right time.

I shudder to think he is/was ever going to be even interviewed

We would be a laughing stock nationwide if we appointed Brolly Man and Murphy is a fool if he doesn't realise it. He should stick to cricket...

Just checked Betfair after putting £2 on Louis Van Gaal last night at odds of 200, his odds are currently 36. Is it too much to ask!?

It's not just us. Any club's fans would react in the same way to the possibility of McClaren coming

Not a Rafa fan. But he ticks the boxes. High profile. Great contacts and no interference from owners. Also expect to see an introduction to the first team for Gary Gardner, who he was interested in when he was at Inter ............

shows he knows talent  ;-)          well some
