And what about Flores? All the talk of him has gone quiet in the last few weeks.

Balague on Twitter said that Flores had not heard anything from Villa. But he wants to mangae in the Premier League.

I think GH was a bit of a left-field appointment. I was wondering about Ranieri too...

It does seem strange that nobody at all seems to have even an inkling as to who is most likely. It's credit to the club again in that regard, I suppose (like the Bent signing, amongst others). Still, it does seem to suggest the possibility of a real surprise appointment, although I still think it'll be Benitez. Or Hughes. Or......

What about van Basten? That would be a left field appointment.

Wouldn't worry about problems between randy and rafa- randy is hardly hands on and spends most of his time in the states- I think rafa would love it here and has the credentials to succeed.

I think Benitez would get on fine with randy- randy is much more amiable that hicks or gillette

I think it's more a case of would Randy get on with/like Rafa.  Does the Barry situation still piss him off?

As I said, I'd put Rafa favourite now, but that's the main potential block in my mind - a personality clash!
Do you think Randy would have a problem in principle with appointing a manager who'd used underhand tactics in the transfer market?

He may not have been aware that Houllier's Liverpool were charged with an illegal approach for Christian Ziege when he appointed Ged. Might it have made a difference?

Obviously it's a bit different with Rafa because Randy was on the receiving end of Barrygate.

Fair point.

I don't buy into the Randy is whiter than white. You don't get as far as he did in Law and Finance without getting your hands dirts.

Randy is a shrewd businessman.

Finding it amazing that the journalists have not found some solid evidence who is being interviewed and is seriously looking favourite. These people have contacts everywhere. staff, delivery people and a whole range of informants. I am going on the basis that Rafa had loads to say 4 weeks ago and has now gone very quiet ......

I'm not saying he's not a shrewd businessman, but the main reason he's got where he is is because of who his father was.

Football is a dog eat dog world and I'm sure randy has realised by now that these things go on in the game as the norm.

It deffo looks like its down to either Rafa, Hughes or  McLaren, which means we may have to look at a Spaniard that sounds like something out of Fawlty towers or a bloke who was born with his arms crossed by default or McLaren, well what can you say Stevie boy, one thing RL must do his appoint him a media twat, simply because you can't let the man in front of a camera, its a disaster in the making.

I'm sure he actually thinks he's speaking to this journo in her native language here, so very very strange and funny.

Reasonable point. It is Faulkner that the manager will have to deal with. Was he here during the Barry saga?

Unless your dad owns the company.

I understand but you cannot buy a good degree. And he did have his own business before MBNA. Yes he got a large helping hand from his father. I am just saying I don't buy that he is this cuddly, ethical, whiter than white owner.

He will know how to get his hands dirty. Which is a good thing.

If that was the case he'd be making approaches to David Moyes agent right now!

Randy is no fool and probably has stepped on a few toes in his time, but some of the antics we saw from Rafa over Barry would not have sat well with him, IMO.  Whether or not he sees that as a big enough issue to stop him hiring him is another matter.
