To be fair, i heard Cascarino on TalkSport this morning, and he said Villa WAS a big club, and called us THE midlands club.

Alan Brazil, and Andy Gray have been talking us up as well.

I am warming to Benitez, but still expect Moyes or Hughes to be appointed, and i would'nt be too disappointed with either.
Same here foot! Benitez and Moyes have risen to the top for me after today. There could well be someone out there leftfield, but I still have an outside liking for Martinez as part of a long term (5 year plan). A steady build and progress would be better than boom and/or bust!

If we were getting a Spanish manager who had just won the title with Valencia , stopping Madrid and Barca from winning it , I would be over the moon .     I still think Benitez could be a good manager for us and he would learn by his mistakes and he wants the job.

Moyes is not interested , but I believe rafa and Hughes would jump at the chance to manage villa and both are extremely decent managers as far as I'm concerned , but I'd go for rafa.

Can't believe some people are suggesting MON or is it just that I'm failing to pick up sarcasm through the internet?

I am stunned Benitez does not appear to be on our radar.

As, I think, I posted in the other place, he's top of the pile of targets according to someone with better contacts at the club than thee and me.

No idea how relevant this info is, but - gosh , it's exciting:

He's fifth on the amalgamated betting table.
That's the same table that has Mark Hughes as No.1.  Actually, Malky Mackay and Stuart Pearce are both moving up every time I check ( 8 and 9 from nowhere).  At the moment Steve McClaren is at 2 but it changes all the time.

Martinez, Benitez and Moyes are all very much in it at the top.  Ancelotti is still in at about 7.  (Does this remind you of the TOTP countdown from the 70's?)

Tony Morley has moved off the bottom place since Martin Jol got spurs.  Otherwise - it's wide open!! (as they say)

MO'N is higher up the table than you might credit.

And if you want to do your own bettin checkin -

I heard some idiot on TS today saying If Lerner had given MON the money for Bent we would have been in the Top 4 . Where do these idiots get their info from.

I think Rafa is the best of what's left now, unless Randy has something lined up which will surprise us all. Van Gaal would be interesting, although i still find it difficult to believe that Hughes walked out of a perfectly good job with nothing lined up.

Lovejoy - has your agent been contacted?  and who would you keep/buy?  I think we should be told.

Notwithstanding the fact that the Milner money paid for Bent, he's not far wrong is he?  Bents goals shot us up the table six places so its fair to say that we wouldn't have been far off the top 4 with him in the team.

Couldn't have summed it up better clampy! Moyes still has some appeal for me but Van Gaal would be a really exciting prospect!

Listen, don't slag me off for this,I am only the messenger. I dont agree with it either for a reason I will put at the end.
But if you believe Pat Murphy , Midlands correspondant for BBC (and mostly on Radio 5) - he states MON wanted to sign Bent twice and RL would not sanction the 12m it was going to cost.

Whether you believe it or not, it came from the BBC Midlands correspondant who is apparently well connected at the club

(now , I don't believe it for this reason. Pat Murphy gave the transfer window of the 2nd incident - which was the time we bought Downing - I could not see why Lerner would sanction to spend 12 million quid for  a guy on crutches - but not for what was even then obviously the missing piece of the jigsaw)

I dont believe it for one moment Paul.    I can imagine Randy not giving the money for Keane and Mcgeady but not for Bent .
