If Carlo, moyes and Hughes are all out of contention then I think Benitez has to be the best option but I must admit rijkaerd does tickle my fancy too.

Or Jol?

Seems to think England ends in North London.

Is that the Jol that used to play for WBA

I find it interesting that the archived story at the bottom  of the guardian article  is one from 2009 quoting Ancellotti as saying he has no intention of joining Chelsea for at least another year.

He actually left Milan about a month later.

I'm sure Hiddink initially refused to consider a return to Chelsea, too, but now he seems to have had a change of heart.  I don't think anything is certain in football, and with agents, the media and big money at stake, a whole elaborate courtship often takes place.  I'm hoping Ancelotti is simply playing hard to get here.  If a club can put together the right package I'm sure he would listen.

Nice one Paulie, if Jol played for West Brom I had forgotten but he doesn't seem interested in managing outside London. Perhaps that's because of his time in sunny Sandwell.

Wasn't he also in the crowd at a certain match in Holland.  I don't want the bloke as manager though as, for me, his record pretty much mirrors McLaren, but at clubs with much bigger resources.

Ive just read the Wikipedia entry on Louis Van Gaal.... and he looks exactly the kind of manager that Randy should like.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_van_Gaal

Schooled in 'total football' ; insists on time to create a team that plays attractive football
4 dutch league titles, UEFA & Champiosns League winners with Ajaz & AZ Alkmaar
1 Spanish League & Cup with Barca
1 German League, Cup & CL Final with Bayern
Dutch national manager (but failed to get to SC in 2002 ; as I recall there was major fallout in the dutch squad then).

He has a reputation for being blunt with press & players (nothing wrong there).

I'm sold.

Van Gaal would be absolutely ideal in my eyes, although I can't see it happening.

Maybe I am just holding false hope, but I cant see what hapeth of difference that interview makes.

He says he hasn't spoken to any club, so at the moment he will take time off  saying he is in no rush.

It's not saying "I am not taking another job, I will not return for football for a year" - it is saying, I haven't had any offers, and if nothing suitable comes along, I'll bide my time and enjoy my life for a year as I am in a position that I can"

You telling me, if Guardiola suddenly left and Barca offerred CA the job - he'd say "sorry guys, I said I'd take a year off so go look elsewhere".

Naargh, means nowt that interview. The fact he says there has been no contact either means

a) All the press reports of us sounding him out are a load of crap anyway, and if they are , why would we believe this one
b) The quotes are before we approached him and are old news.

Lets just wait and see. I remember Bent and Villa saying "we did not approach him illegally" a few months ago, even though it broke on this site 4 days before it became public knowledge.

(However, if he dont come, agree with everything everyone else has said, I'd take Benitez happily, or Frank Ryk. or any other person mentioned - apart from McLaren !!!!

Any reason why?  He is out of work and managed at AZ for a number of years relatively recently.  Surely worth asking the question (just like with Ancelotti).

I've been on La Stampa's website and the story is dated today. Matt Kendrick in the Evening Mail is reporting that Ancelotti has ruled himself out but that they know for a fact that Villa made contact with his advisors.

My issue with van Gaal is not whether he would want the job but whether the board would think outside the box enough to give it him.

Matt Kendrick on twatter

I know for a fact #avfc did sound out Ancelotti's advisors (despite his no contact/fantasy comments), but he's said 'no' #sothatsyourlotti

Shame.  So, on to our next target.
