For all the negativity surrounding McLaren, guiding Twente to the Championship was no mean feat.
His sacking from Wolfsburg was incredibly premature as well.

As i've said, he wouldn't be my choice, but he has a good reputation amongst fellow professionals.

Agreed
You have to put some perspective into this. The Dutch league is like Scotland, it has been dominated for years by three teams and three teams only. That dominance was broken when Louis Van Gaal steered AZ to the title, a manager most on here would wet themselves over if employed.
Steve McClaren took on a Twente team with a fraction of the resources of the big three and guided them straight to a title. It is the English equivalent of Ipswich or Norwich winning the Premiership, because that’s how the Big Three view Enschede out here; a farmer town with a half decent team. I am in no way saying that he is the answer and personally I think it would be a mistake given his perception BUT this perception is frankly incorrect and belittles the outstanding job he did here in knocking Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord right off their perch AND doing so at a time when Ajax had arguably their strongest side in years.

If Randy did try to get Ancelloti and got knocked back,it would be a massive come down to then go for McClaren. Benetiz would seem the natural second choice?

I just think he's a dick.

I think about the positive points of his career, then I think about that accent, that brolly, and all that cringemaking "Wazza", "Stevie G" and "JT" bullshit with the England players.

Sticking with Houllier would have made more sense.

I want to feel excited about the new season and regardless of his ability, which I feel is being exaggerated to a degree and in any case, his performance in THIS league was average at best, but if we were to sign him (and I'm only considering the idea becase he keeps being discussed) any potential excitement is gone like dust in the wind.

I would rather risk keeping the recent management team in place without hesitation.

Something I don't disagree with at all. He needs to be in the frame because he's currently looking for work, but I very much doubt he'll end up at the helm especially given the options currently on here to us.
My gut feeling is that he'll end up at Twente with Preudhomme going over to Saudi.

The reason the board are seemingly considering him is his decent-ish record of achievement.

The reason the fans (including me) are lukewarm, to say the least, is all the baggage he carries with him.  Plus there are better managers out there.

A man that McClaren beat to the Dutch title.
In both cases it should be a no thanks

Sums it up thoroughly, that. He'd have to give one hell of an interview to be appointed ahead of Benitez, say.

McLaren did a good job in the Dutch League it is true.  But not to down play his achievement  we should not forget that the Dutch League is very shit,  just about one notch above the Scottish Premier.  His time in Germany is more telling of his capabilities, the Bundesliga is a few notches up from the Dutch League and quite a few down from the Prem so on that evidence we should stay well away from Stheve.

The cynical side of me believes the Ancelotti speculation was orchestrated by the club. The reason IMO to pursue a manager currently in a job. Moyes perhaps? It has gone totally mute about his name and our club.

I'd like Martinez to be our new manager.  I'd like him even more if he brought N'zogbia with him.

Or Jol?

Seems to think England ends in North London.  How about a double Dutch combination of Jol and Rijkaard?
