There's no reason he couldn't feel he could build something special at Villa, even if he won't have the lavish resources he enjoyed at Chelsea. But at least he'll have a free hand without interference so everything he does have to spend he can use as he sees fit and not have some twat-grinned gobshite tell him.
That will count for a lot.

Absolutely or at least that's what I'm hoping. We do have a lot to offer the right man, we just need to get him in.

I'm extremely nervous about the appointment as in all my years supporting Villa, we've never been in the position we are in today, where we have the opportunity to bring in a real top manager. We really can't allow this chance to pass us by. The impact of bringing in the right man will not just impact on the players we bring in, the way the press perceive us but on the whole city and beyond.

Maybe Randy wants to push on with the stadium development, increase our sponsorship value, fill those 400 seats in the Trinity Road, simply creating additional revenue so we are able to compete. If he has to keep wasting money on paying high wages to average managers and then additionally pay them off, it makes sense to use that money on somebody like Ancelotti or Van Gaal.

Randy has got the club very well organised, I'm hoping now he's focusing on the team.

Winding up with McLaren after all this would be not so much a kick in the bollocks as a stamp on them.

Re that Torygraph story today, I can't believe they'd not interview Benitez while favouring McLaren. It would smack of settling for mediocrity. And insanity.

The article is bullshit. Nothing to concern ourselves with (at least for now).

I've told myself not to depend on the Ancelotti thing coming off. Its only sensible after all not to get carried away, but with all the credible managers available, getting McLaren would be too much for me to take.

It would be like meeting that girl off Facebook who looks like Rachel Weisz and realising that it was just an Avatar of Rachel Weisz and that really she looks like... Steve McLaren.

I'm sure he's a nice bloke and as long as he's not our manager I have nothing against him but fuck him.
I'm sure it's just the press trotting out their impossible to shake (it seems) image of us a middle of the road mickey mouse club with no ambition at all and forgeting that we have a generous and passionate billionaire who loves the club in charge.
McLaren will apply for the job. Courtesy and common decency will dictate he will get an interview (whilst Ancelotti is already preparing his plans for the season ahead), it will be cordial and pleasant and he will not be called back again except to thank him for his time and perhaps some complimentary chocs delivered to his house.
In the meantime I hope the press fuck off linking us with him.

A mate has just delivered 15kg of Meatballs to the Forest of Arden and taken away two dead bodies. No questions asked. He's a made man now.

It's hard not to get excited about Ancelotti.

I think we stand a very good chance of getting him.

I agree with Maz in that having total control would surely be a positive for CA.

Excellent Maz, really made me laugh.

Such an important week for the club.
So many Villa fans logging-on umpteen times-a-day and ssh-ing everybody in the room every time the sports report comes-on at the end of the news.

We could do with some stability. The problem with Ancellotti is that if he does well, he will be off to Roma (or wherever) as soon as they come calling.

I think we will end up with Mclaren. We were after him before we got Houllier but he turned us down as he had just started at Wolfsburg and didnt want to walk out on them. Hopefully he missed his chance!!!

Really don't know who I would prefer

Why would we go for that clown , when there is so many top managers avaliable this time .      There wasnt many about last summer but this time , we have a chance to get a top man .   We would be a joke.

I go bed with the thoughts of Ancelotti and Laursen and wake up with Mccalren and probably Southgate .

Its like me going to bed after 10 pints with a bird that looks like Kelly brook , then to wake up to find the bird  looks the spit of Susan Boyle ....

Let's worry about that if and when it happens. If he goes elsewhere that will mean he's been successful with us, surely that's a good thing? We'd then be a more attractive proposition for the next manager.

The most plausible report I have read of where we are in the process, is an article in the Telegraph at the end of last week that said Randy is flying into Birmingham early this week in order to sit down with Paul Faulkner to draw up a shortlist of targets. It's also clear from the bookies odds that there is no clear indicator as to who the favourite is.

I think people will have to gird their loins and prepare for a week or two of speculation before the new manager is announced.

I think the Hiddink to Chelsea story is quite significant.  Would he take Hughes with him ?  I think he might.

What it'll also do is stop Redknob going to Chelsea and Carlo going to Spurs which was a slight rumour doing the rounds, thus leaving Carlo to come to us.  Unless he happy to bide his time good and proper until a better job becomes available.

With regards to McClaren, surely there are much better candidates out there then him and I trust the board will know that.
