does anyone know how to find matt kendrick on twatter by the way? I am new to this game.

It's Twitter. Do you have an account there? If so, add me (HVLegion) and he'll be on there.

I added you Legion, I joined this world of Twitter last night to see what it is all about and to see if there is any light on the the situation at Villa. I must admit I don't quite get it!  I also added my dad who lives in Spain and all I get from him is how bloody hot it is. I know that, it's Spain.

I finally got round to joining yesterday. Add Danny Baker,he's quite prolific and amusing, you can find him on prodnose.

Had a look at Twitter for the first time looking for Matt Kendrick.  While searching I came across Ron Toss's brmb tweets and he reckons 'a lot of his pals in the game reckon Schteve McClaren will be the new manager'.  And SGT was bigging wally up on the beeb yesterday. That really is a nightmare scenario (let alone having the words Tom Ross and Steve McClaren in the same sentence)  >:(
Thats the same Tom Ross whose pals told him that Owen was 100% 'nailed on' signing for us 2 years ago.

Apologies if it's already being mentioned.

The front page of The Sunday Times sports section reports that Rijkaard wants the Villa job - "The former Dutch international contacted Villa last week to express his interest in replacing Houllier and is understood to have received a positive response."

The thing is Sir Graham wasn't bigging him up at all. All he said was the McClaren will have learnt a lot from his experiences over the past few years, did well in Holland with a smaller team winning the title, and will also have a lot of contacts which he could draw on across Europe. He could also start right away.

McClaren's problem is he comes across as a complete tool, but behind it all is a very good coach. From a PR standpoint he's a massive risk, and it will take a very bold chairman to give him an opportunity again in England. That said, somebody will and he'll probably do ok. I don't think for a minute that he'll be managing us because there are much better available options out there.

If it were to be Ancelotti, that would throw up some interesting tactical issues. He's never really seemed to like playing with wingers for example, tending to prefer a diamond with both Milan and initially at Chelsea. Perhaps his time at Chelsea may have convinced him to play more of a 4-3-3. I really struggle to see a diamond formation being successful week in week out in England. Our game is based so much on width and creating chances.

Anyway, it's all probably a bit premature that!

My big concern with Rijkaard is that the only job he has really be successful in was at Barcelona who have a team anyone could win trophies with and even then things got difficult for him in the end. At Sparta Rotterdam and Galatasary he was less of a success.

I am sorry matt c but have we got a style of play anymore?
We looked disjointed and lost pretty much all of last season and have just lost a teams worth of players so i feel we/new manager will be starting from scratch. All a bit premature though as you stated.
Still got everything crossed for carlo!

That's not quite true. He rebuilt the Barca side almost from scratch. You don't stay manager of Barca for so long unless you're doing something right.
Agree about Gala but he's an interesting manager that will be looking to prove something. Sometimes it's not a question of just bringing in the best manager but bringing in the best manager that suits the club. I think most would be happy if we played great football, had a fortress Villa Park and were fighting it out for 6th place with a cup every now and then.

What we need more than anything is a spell of managerial stability with the right man in charge to get us a real top six side, challenging on all fronts.

"The former Dutch international contacted Villa last week to express his interest in replacing Houllier and is understood to have received a positive response."

Meanwhile, a formerly full time employed Birmingham worker contacted a big company last week to ask about employment and received a positive response, he was told to send his CV in.
