Thanks Hilts for the links to the Liverpool forum. They obviously regard him very highly.

Here's my thinking now.

1. Carlo
2. Benitez
3. Moyes
4. Jol
5. Hughes

I'd go;

1. Moyes
2. Carlo
3. Hughes
4. Benitez
5. Jol

Being delighted with 1 - 2
satisfied with 3 and underwhelmed with 4 - 5

For me it's:

2 Moyes
3 Jol
4 Martinez
5 Hughes

Delighted with 1/2
Interested by 3/4
Underwhelmed with 5

So does the Mail on Sunday. The Sunday Times however reports that Frank Riijkaard has rang Villa to say he's interested.

And when challenged as to what this source was, linked to a goal.com article which quoted that daily mail article.

Houllier gone. Hughes was nailed on to be our manager when he resigned from Fulham, it would appear that will not now happen. Ancelotti and Rafa are the bookies favourites at the minute but in reality nobody will actually know anything until we decide to tell them.

Can someone state a case for Jol, especially when compared against McLaren's record?

It strikes me that they're pretty similar except Jol has generally been at the bigger club (Spurs v Boro, Hamburg v Wolfsburg and Ajax v Twente).  ...And they both have dodgy dutch accents.

This is absolutely not me saying I want McLaren, I just don't really understand what the appeal of Jol is.

Jol is somebody who I dont want. Did an ok job and got a lot of sympathy for the way he was sacked (rightly so) which has slightly distorted his ability. A good man and a decent manager, but we can do better.

does anyone know how to find matt kendrick on twatter by the way? I am new to this game.

It's Twitter. Do you have an account there? If so, add me (HVLegion) and he'll be on there.

I added you Legion, I joined this world of Twitter last night to see what it is all about and to see if there is any light on the the situation at Villa. I must admit I don't quite get it!  I also added my dad who lives in Spain and all I get from him is how bloody hot it is. I know that, it's Spain.

Had a look at Twitter for the first time looking for Matt Kendrick.  While searching I came across Ron Toss's brmb tweets and he reckons 'a lot of his pals in the game reckon Schteve McClaren will be the new manager'.  And SGT was bigging wally up on the beeb yesterday. That really is a nightmare scenario (let alone having the words Tom Ross and Steve McClaren in the same sentence)  >:(

For me, jol is ahead of mclaren purely on his premier league performance. It's worth remembering that spurs had been nowhere near the top 6 for years, he took them to the verge of champions league qualification 2 years running, playing some really good attacking football.

Mclaren achieved good club success with boro, but I always found them tedious to watch and too 'english' with yakubu and viduka both up front.

Jol's not one of my favourites for the job, but I'd prefer him to mclaren.
