Thanks Hilts for the links to the Liverpool forum. They obviously regard him very highly.

Here's my thinking now.

1. Carlo
2. Benitez
3. Moyes
4. Jol
5. Hughes

I'd go Carlo , moyes , Hughes or Benitez- if we have to offer Carlo big wages then so be it, he would earn the money by giving the whole club a lift and gates would rise I think.

It would send out a big message to players, fans and other teams that we mean business!

Getting the right management team in and paying whatever it takes is more important than which players we sign this summer for me. Bring in the dream team of CA and RW, and the likes of Young and Downing may stay...but more than happy to take over inflated prices for them if the new team can spend the money wisely to improve a few positions in the squad. I'd much rather we spent £10m on getting the right management team than a £10m player this summer...obviously both and a few more players would be ideal though!  ;D

How much would a three year contract for Ancelloti cost us ?  11 to 13 million ? We've wasted that amount on plenty of players over the last few years,so I'd rather see us spend it on a top notch manager.

Couldn't agree more KRS! I think it's probably a bit too much to expect a new manager to come in and start spending loads of dosh on players that may not settle/fit in immediately, which is what a lot of fans would expect. A steady assessment of what we already have is needed with the obvious exception of a goalkeeper! A left back? Along term view of our future is needed, not a quick fix for next season!

I wouldn't take much stock in what Red & White Kop say about Benitez. They are so one-eyed in support of him it makes you sick.

That said, I think there are some good arguments to be made in favour of him - and he'd be my second choice behind Ancelotti. It's good to see that the board are at least aiming high.

I think the likes of Ancelotti might attract a better caliber of foreign player, say an ageing Champions League pro from Italy / Spain.  But nothing is going to persuade Ashley Young he's better off at Villa than at Manchester United so I think we may as well get used to that right now.  Shame (as was losing Milner last year) but it's now inevitable.

Slightly off-thread but i read somewhere than Citeh were wanting to come in for Ash with a late bid - if he's gonna go I don't really care too much where - but I'd be happy to swap him to get Milner back! I can but dream!

Exactly. With MON we have tried to spend a lot of money on players, but if the players are  like Richard Dunne it doesn't work.
Maybe an invstment on a great manager could be worth the effort.

If ever a few lines could sum things up it's these words, Oh how I wish Randy Lerner would read them.
