I'd be happy with Martinez

Why? I don't see the attraction.
He put in place the foundations of Swansea's success. He came in, set a philosophy, and found some decent unknown talent from abroad and persuaded them to join Swansea, And got them playing good football. I personally think given a chance at a club like ours, with financial backing, he could do well.
And then again, the pressures of operating a higher level with egos of prima donna players to deal with, and the expectations of a much, much higher profile club, might be too much for him.
Are we in a position to take such a gamble, or should we go for someone proven at delivering success at the top.
I know what I'd prefer.

A big name from left field still could come into it -

Carl Yastrzemski, Manny Ramirez or Carl Crawford ?

I'm guessing they're left fielders...

This is beginning to get the feel of our search for O'Neill's replacement, where one by one the best contenders are ruled out, leaving.... well, a very thin list.

Personally, I don't think we've heard the last of the Mark Hughes link - and has Ancelotti been formally ruled out yet?

Seeing McClaren creeping into the picture - even if it's pure speculation - panics me.

Im not sure were get a 'formal' ruling in or out of anyone. Villa will appoint and then announce it. I think this may run for a while yet

I think you're right. I got texts from friends yesterday telling me Hughes had been appointed - which surprised me, given I'd heard nothing 30 minutes before. I told them it had all moved very quickly... and lo and behold, it hadn't moved at all.

I'm sure I heard on the news this morning that the Club had come out and said mark Hughes would not be becoming Villa manager.

Or did I dream it???

I think you dreamt it. But the general feeling in the most of the media reports today is that Villa had told Fulham they weren't interested in Hughes yesterday morning - and the stance hasn't changed. Others I've read say Hughes possibly still a contender, but an outside one.

Not exactly, media sources who were yesterday telling us that it was going to be Hughes are now saying that they "understand" he's not in the frame. We should know by now that Villa don't conduct their business in public and that 99% of rumours are pure speculation.

That's been pretty much doing the rounds. As Tim says, Pat Murphy stated it pretty clearly and was ruling in McLaren big time! Please GOD NOOOOO! Also stated Villa had a short list of ONE but no-one at the club was saying a thing! I wonder.....

Things like this make me smile - if nobody is saying anything how do they even know there IS a shortlist, let alone how many names are on it?  One day I really want the press to come out and say "Actually, we haven't got a Scooby Doo what's going on!"
