Now that's a downsizing of expectations!

Wow. Where to start with that?

- we never wanted Hughes, and told them that
- Ancelotti not even near the top of the list and isn't interested anyway
- Steve McFuckingClaren a major contender

Christ almighty.

It's a bit of a shocker and no mistake.

The Sports Ed said they had some eye opening stuff to break, and there are 3 fucking journos on the by-line.

Any news on outsider candidates? Didi Deschamps is close to leaving Marseille.

Neil Moxey is also taking the line that Ancelotti is not interested in the job.

I will be disappointed if we end up with Brollyman because  we have an "ethics" issue on Hughes.

I am not sure if Ancelotti is the right man for us as we may not be able to meet his aspirations. Furthermore he  has  only managed established dominate clubs in the Italian and English Leagues. He has no record of building a team. We need a manager who can do that. Hughes may be the best option now.

Quote from: Everyone's favourite middle-class diarrhea sheet
Villa say they have an open mind about filling their vacancy. Speculation that Carlo Ancelotti is among their leading candidates is wide of the mark, however. The former Chelsea manager has not received any contact from Villa and he is known to have no interest in the position. Ancelotti, according to sources close to the Italian, is holding out for a club that can offer Champions League football. Roberto Martínez, the Wigan Athletic manager, has, however, emerged as an outsider for the Villa post.

Seems to be following the Houllier appointment in some ways. Nothing from the club, dodgy names being floated, "obvious" appointments apparently being ruled out. A left field appointment seems somehow logical now. No one has mentioned Klinsmann for a while...

You've said what has been nagging at me about Ancelottil. I wouldn't say no but I'm not sure it would feel right. He has had much bigger jobs than us, has little to prove, and might get the feeling he had settled and/or become frustrated without world class players and mega funds. There is a definite sweet spot where the choice of manager is concerned. Seemingly capable of great things but not "profile" enough to see Villa as a step down from somewhere, his best achievements ahead of him, more about potential than CV. Of course MON was exactly in that sweet spot when he joined.

For me

Hughes ruled out + Ancelotti not interested = Benitez appointed.

And ... last.

Benitez must be coming in on the blind side now.
