thats it sorted, Hughes is coming to us

Neither Hughes or his representatives have been approached by another club.

Could be bullshit from Hughes, obviously. Bookies think so, they've closed the books.

The bookies know fuck all, they're just playing it safe.

I'll be chuffed enough if Hughes comes in, I think he's the right man for the job at this stage, but it's quite weird to be in a situation where there's a good few choices that make me think 'Yeah, he'd be good!'. Hughes, Moyes, Ancelotti, Benitez, Jol, Martinez, Curbishley. Well, not Curbishley, but all the others have some pretty strong points in their favour.

I initially voted for Benitez, but the more I've thought about it, Hughes genuinely would be my choice.

I bet he goes to bloody Chelsea now.

Well very very underwhelmed by Hughes, only saving grace will be if he can get Zamora and Hangeland to come with him.

A good solid manager ,great man manager and he will get the best from Ireland and warnock , he will do very well here and stay a few years- the future will be good in my opinion.

Fulham statement states that Hughes can leave on 30th June. Interesting.

Do we really want someone who can get the best from those two? I'd rather sign two new players as they have problems which can recur. Warnock was poor since before GH came and Ireland is certifiable. We could see Warnock turn in a series of poor performances and Ireland crack up again.

27 people out of 220 says it all !

What a totally uninspiring, underwhelming appointment.

So many great managers out there - Ancelotti being the most obvoius

And we pick the yet again safe and unadventurous option. I am really really disappointed.

He may do OK, personally, I think it is ONeill mark 2 , in the way that we will never struggle under Hughes , probably get us in the top 8 or 9 every season. But will never get anywhere near the top 4.

So, the choice says "We don't want to win the league, we don't even want Champions League - finish around 8th and we will be happy.

This sounds more like the Ellis years with every day that passes.

I have £900 waiting for 1 x adult and 2 x kids ST's

If Ancelotti had joined (or someone as inspiring) I'd have rang them tomorrow.

Hughes ? - I will wait to see what the window brings and make my mind up on July 13th.

So so disappointed - what a chance missed ! I also think it absolutely certain Martin ONeill will take over Fulham - in my view - they have got the best of the deal (and I am no MON fan either !)

The papers and the bookies know absolutely nothing about our club because everything is kept in house. We wont comment on speculation and I still maintain it wont be him. We commented saying we hadn't made contact which seems a very strange thing to do if you are about to appoint that man as your manager.

Of course we would release a statement saying that. If we didn't the FA would ask us to explain why we seem to be tapping up a manager who was employed.

Mark Hughes don't just quit like that if he hasnt got another job lined up  - surely you cant be that niaive.

Hughes strikes me as a very ambitious man, the very opposite of settling for mid table as some are claiming.

What tells you we haven't approached Ancelotti and he told us to do one?

For some reason I don't think this one is over just yet. Kendrick is usually spot on and if he says Ancelotti is first choice I would be inclined to go with that. Thinking about hughes' situation as well, he may see this season as the best it's going to get with fulham and his options are obviously either a) tie himself to the club with a new contract or b) leave now with reputation at a good level and hope to pick up a better job at some other point. Be that villa or somewhere else. Not surprised he's chosen to jump ship really.

Be interesting now

Up until the time this broke - 27 and 12.4 % on people voted for Hughes.

That means 87.6% thought there was a better manager. And virtually all of these were between two people.

You watch now, every come on saying "Hughes was always my choice !".

It's an OKish appointment, nothing more , nothing less, and a hell of a lot less than we could have done.

Can you imagine the England camp today , not especially Young, coz I think he would go if we employed Pep Guadiola !.

But I bet Downing and Bent were discussing it, and thinking "Bloody hell, we could get Ancelotti - I made the right choice coming to Villa !".

Wonder if Downing wants to sign a contract now we are having Mark Hughes ? - I very much doubt it.

And that tells the whole story

I couldn't give a shit how 'exiting' or 'ambitious' the new appointment is, so long as he can do the job required.
