The 'who' aside for a moment, does anyone actually expect an apointment so soon?  Randy does things the right way, so doubt we've been in any sort of advanced talks, or maybe even talk of any kind, with anyone before Houllier officially left.  I honestly can't see a quick apointment.

I'd rather have MON back than Mark Hughes.

I wouldn't.
Nor me.
But I don't want Hughes either.

Somebody with a history of silverware would be nice

Assuring Fulham that Villa have not been in contact with Hughes or his agent is not the same as not wanting to speak to Hughes in the future or when he is available, is it.

He knows that his reputation will suffer less if he is unemployed than if he is underachieving at Villa.

Ah, the Martin O'Neill strategy to getting ahead.. at Cardiff.

But there are several differences between MON and Ancelotti.

So, the Mirror are saying it's Hughes and the BBC are saying it isn't?

In all honesty, and even though I'm now expecting old Sparky, you'd be more inclined to believe the BBC........

No doubt he will also be reminded that no manager has left Villa and gone on to a bigger job. At least club job.

sky are also going with hughes and their midlands reporter is saying his sources are saying hughes is about to resign.

This has been on the cards for weeks and i would think randy and the board know who they want , its not unexpected like mons departure.

Mat Kendrick on Twitter says that nothing significantly has changed since this morning, ie. Ancelotti still the board's preferred choice (but there are obviously doubts that he'll come) and confusion surrounding Hughes' contract clause.

That the pleb we usually see outside Bodymoor on transfer deadline day?  The most pointless job since Dion Dublin hired a hairdresser?
