Rafa Benitez and Louis Van Gaal both top of my list.
Carlo Ancelotti also good

No for Hughes (not good and experience enough)

It'd be a fantastic H&V turnaround for everyone to love the manager EXCEPT Chris.

pete colley on sky saying he believes from sources at fulham that mark hughes is about to leave fulham.

anyone hear phil thompson on sky last night , he had spoken to houllier the day before and houllier wanted to carry on , when asked about the new manager thommo said he wouldnt be surprised to see mark hughes in charge as early as today.

He knows that his reputation will suffer less if he is unemployed than if he is underachieving at Villa.

Ah, the Martin O'Neill strategy to getting ahead.. at Cardiff.

Speaking of MON, I really hope we speak with Jol and Van Gaal as part of the selection process. To limit our search to the UK would be very shortsighted.

I wonder why he would do that?

Please stop speculating everybody, Hughes will have the job.

Where's Sven. Seem to recall he was on the radar last time around. Surprised he hasn't cropped up this time around.

My God, don't even suggest.

I am always surprised that this is the standard response. He seems to do a good job wherever he goes.

The problem I have with him is he seems to get linked with every job going to the point where it gets boring.  If the manager of your local jacks it in tomorrow 'Sven will be interested'.

I'd rather have MON back than Mark Hughes.

BBC are reporting we have said that we have had no contact with Hughes also. This Carlo link could be the one!

Mark Hughes was this morning preparing to resign as Fulham boss in order to succeed Gerard Houllier at Aston Villa, according to sources.

Fulham were this morning refusing to confirm that Hughes was still in his post.

The former Blackburn and Manchester City manager has emerged as Randy Lerner's No.1 target since the American decided to pay Houllier off over health fears.

Though Fulham were bullish about keeping Hughes yesterday, he is understood to be ready to step down in the next few hours.

Sparky, 47, has a clause in his Fulham deal, which he was able to activate from June 1, which allows him to walk away for a relatively small amount of compensation should a bigger club come calling.

He is thought to relish the idea of managing a club with bigger spending power than the Cottagers' modest resources.

Aston Villa link to Mark Hughes played down

Aston Villa have been in touch with Premier League rivals Fulham to assure them that they have not been in contact with Cottagers boss Mark Hughes.

Villa are searching for a new manager after Gerard Houllier left the club on Wednesday because of health problems.

Hughes, the bookmakers' favourite, has been heavily linked with the vacancy but Villa have moved to allay the west London club's fears.

Fulham said they are in talks to extend Hughes' contract at Craven Cottage.

Although they have refused to discuss the details of Hughes' contract they have insisted that their position is unchanged. It is also understood that without their permission no club would be allowed to talk to Hughes about a possible move prior to 30 June - coincidentally the day their seasons starts with a Europa League qualifying fixture.

So you think Ancelotti "hasn't done much" and you think Sven has been good "wherever he goes"?  You need to have a lie down my friend.

Not saying I want Sven. Far from it. All I am saying is he is not hte joke act which he is often made out to be.

Not saying I don't want Ancelotti. His appointment would be a coup. But I am not convinced he is the right manager for Villa. We need a manager who can do a root and branch overhaul of the playing side, or who can even continue the work GH seems to have started. Has Ancelotti demonstrated that he can do that.

Look what the last supposed Messiah left us with.

if the bbc report is true and we dont want hughes i would think we have therefore got the man we want and are not looking at other targets which points to ancelotti maybe ? The plot thickens by the minute.
