Re: Hughes leaving Fulham, it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with us. he could well be thinking that, having enhanced his reputation at Fulham - taking them as far as they can realistically go in terms of the league, he's got a lot to lose by staaying and presiding over their stagnation and maybe something to gain by just quitting and then seeing what comes aong, Villa job or not.

It will all end in tears.

Let's take the risk for once.

It's a better list of candidates that we had to put up with last season.  Here are the runners and riders for last August: -

   1. Curbishley A 3/1
   2. BIlic S 6/1
   3. McClaren S 8/1
   4. Moyes D 12/1
   5. Shearer A 12/1
   6. Davies B 16/1
   7. Houillier G 16/1
   8. Klinnsmann J 16/1
   9. Di Matteo R 16/1
  10. Smith W 20/1
  11. Jol M 20/1
  12. Hoddle G 25/1
  13. Dublin D 50/1
  14. Gray A 66/1
  15. Morley Tony 200/1

Nobody has mentioned Di Matteo this year (wink)

Where's Sven. Seem to recall he was on the radar last time around. Surprised he hasn't cropped up this time around.

Of Joy, if we pull that off.

just back from work-has anything happened of note regarding a new boss? anyone ruled themselves in or out in the last few hours?

I am always surprised that this is the standard response. He seems to do a good job wherever he goes.

So you think Ancelotti "hasn't done much" and you think Sven has been good "wherever he goes"?  You need to have a lie down my friend.

From the Sky Italia ticker:

ASTON VILLA, HUGHES IN PRIMA FILA PER LA PANCHINA IN LIZZA ANCHE CARLO ANCELOTTI

roughyl translated as: Hughes is the favourite for the bench, Carlo Ancelotti also in the running

Claiming that Ancelotti, if appointed, will walk in here with a bad attitude thinking he's doing us a favour by taking the job, is ludicrous. He knows that if he gets the job and makes a mess of it, people will spend a long time doubting his ability. If he isn't sure of his motivation, he won't accept the offer (if he gets one). He knows that his reputation will suffer less if he is unemployed than if he is underachieving at Villa.
