Carlo is the man for us in my opinion...if he wants to come over to us that is. We can't fuck around this season, the last one was a write off, and a costly one at that.  Appointing Carlo would should show a statement of intent, and as well as attracting players it might also quell the jitters of players that might be thinking of leaving. They might stick around with us for another season. Any club in the lifetime of the Premiership that has made the step up from the second tier (Villa) to the first tier of clubs (Citeh) has had to make one of these bold moves, in our case, it could be the fact that we appoint a world class manager.

Second best would be Moyes, I really think with some money he would really do a great job for us.

I suppose Hughes would be okay as well, we have a few players that have worked with him in the past, they would probably come back into the fold, plus, it might entice Shay Given to us. Plus Hughes is not a bad manager as well.

Rafa Benitez or Martinez are a gamble, could be great.

Steve McClaren....gives me nightmares, a terrifying prospect.

Mirror Football tweeted 30 seconds ago to say Hughes is leaving Fulham to join Villa this morning.... breaking news!

I caught the last part of a piece on R5 last night, and for once they were quite up about Villa stating it was a very exciting job.  I think we undersell ourselves sometimes.  I hate the term sleeping giant, and dont think it reflects well on us.  We have good youth, excellent training ground, one of the best stadiums in the country and loyal fans.  Thats what the piece said, and what I think to.  Any of those managers would be lucky to manage us.  Not us lucky to get them

Similarly, I know he gets a lot of, unjustified in my view, stick on here, but Alan Brasil on Talksport is always saying what a big club Villa is, and what a big job it is to be manager. However, he did compare us and Newcastle the other day, which grated a bit.

I wonder inf the Mail has any inside track on this as Matt Kendrick seemed to have the jump on everyone with the Gezza news...

I think at any other time, Hughes would have been an acceptable choice for us.
But while someone Ancelotti is availble ,Hughes seems like a poor alternative.

Andy Grey is touting Ancelotti and Hughes and is generally saying good things about us.

Ancellotti, just can't see that.

Hughes....screaming mediocrity, is that what we want.

Does anybody realise that one of the games greatest team builders in  Louis van Gaal (correct me if I'm wrong, but personal friend of Doug Ellis as in link) is available.

Isn't it the case that after Houllier we need to show a bit of ambition and intent, get some fear back into the opposition, no!!!!!.

mat kendrick, who earlier broke the story on houllier departing seems to think we want ancelotti as number 1 target...

i would be over the moon with that tbh... however, it would take a bit of convincing that our ambition is there apparently... money is not a problem...

the rest on the shortlist are apparently, moyes and jol, my two other favourite candidates... jol is my overall favourite, but if we got one of jol, moyes or ancelotti (along with uncle festor as number 2), then i would be very happy...

and outside of those, is hughes, martinez and mclaren...

a big no no to mclaren and hughes from me... and martinez would be a huge gamble, despite the fact he would play decent football...

My opinion (for what it's worth!) is that Matt Kendrick is just relaying what all the villa forum polls are asking for....gets him some good hits/followers etc...I don't mind being wrong though!

Any national journalist would do this, I agree, but I think Matt Kendrick has a bit more of a direct line to the Villa.

The Carlo story is bollocks.
I think the club have put it out that they're interested in him to put over the 'no stone unturned' angle.
I doubt they've even approached him, and even if they have, I don't think he'd be interested.

It'll be Mark Medicority Hughes.
