Weren't Chelsea on the verge of 'Doing a Leeds' before Abramovic took over? Sure I read that somewhere.

I think we must have read the same thing somewhere Enigma.  I'm not saying Harding did not invest money but I am sure that the interest that he was receiving meant that Chelsea were in a precarious position and arguably was not the Robin Hood character that he is made out to be.

Largely irrelevant to this thread though.

Ken Bates used to justify his anti-Harding stance by saying there was interest repayable. It definitely took Chelsea to a new level and although they were deep in the shit there's no way Roman would have bought them were it not for Harding's money.

I apologize if it has been covered already but one thing in Hughes' favour is that he might get Ireland to behave.

It wouldn't be the clincher for me, but it might be an added bonus.

I think it'll be Ailsa, and I'll be fairly pleased if it is.  Still relatively young as a manager, and did very well at Blackburn given his resources.  Wasn't a hit at Man City, but I'm sure even he regrets joining that circus now.

He stunk the place out at Blackburn. He's an abrupt about-turn towards the road leading to hoofville and Mediocrity city. I hope Fulham want 30m to release him from his contract.

Go on then, who would you have as manager?

The only real thing i can say regarding the usual specualtion Sky are coming out with is if, with the wealth of managerial talent that is out there at the moment, if the Villa end up hiring Steve McLaren or Allen bloody Curbishley Coronation street might as well put their John Snape storyline on hold - coz it will have nothing on what I will do !.

Seriously, I will take any of the others mentioned with varying degrees of happiness - ecstasy for some, down to "I don't know - but I'll see" on others.

But if the Villa appoint one of these two - they can kiss goodbye to my support.

(However, Faulkner is no mug business wise so I cant see it happening. ST sales will be hugely down this year what-ever , throw in one of those as an appointment and it will be financial suicide.

That's some pretty impressive revisionism even by your standards.

Moyes realistically. Ancelotti unrealistically

15th
6th
10th
7th

Considering 6th with handsome financial backing for us was considered competing for the CL, what does 6th and 7th with Blackburn represent?

Throw in an 8th for Fulham, though, and it's not too bad.

I still don't like him, though.

I doubt it. It may well be worth dragging up some old posts to see what we thought of Hughes's brand of football back then. I don't remember too many people on here praising their attacking flair and neat passing game thats for sure.

One thing in Hughes' favour - his Blackburn side really upset Arsene Wenger.

Because I am sad, I have been on this website since I got home from work at 4.30pm. (apart from the half hour I watched Corrie !).

I have seen the same names mentioned.

However, there is one that no one - and I think that is no one - has mentioned as a possibility.

Mr Martin O'Neill.

Its a possibility. I mean, up until last week, all the noises coming out the club was that GH was coming back. Then we suddenly put this contract wrangle to bed with MON, and suddenly, GH goes.

Who knows, but there is as much chance as most of those mentioned here.

So (and I wont give my thoughts)

What would peoples opinion be (and if he isn't on the poll - he should be

I don't like him either but then I don't like Ferguson and he's an OK manager. He ticks a lot of the boxes and I get the impression that he's well respected within the game. I'm trying to keep an open mind because I can think of arguments against all the likely candidates.

Alternative vesion for Mark: he's a wanker, just being linked with him means that we'll be relegated.
