If that ginger twat is Lerners choice, he only became available on Sunday.
What the fuck have the board being doing for the last 4 weeks ?

Talking to others and not sharing their vision?

The statement is extremely patronising as well.  They have grossly misjudged the fans opinions if they think this is just a Blues thing.

So the press were right all along. An absolutely shambolic process, no secret internal plan at all.

The stuff in the statement about buying into the club's vision confirms for me that one of his prime 'qualities' is an ability to manage on a shoe string without wanting to buy top quality players.

See you later Downing.

And Bent. This is one of the most misguided decisions ever. I don't have anything against him personally, but professionally he's a dreadful dreadful choice.

I am not sure it can cost us anything in compensation.  Blues are likely to sue McLeish for breach of contract, if they win, McLeish will be liable not Villa.  Although, I suppose they could also sue us for speaking to a player they consider to be still under contract with them, even though we have been told by his lawyers and the LMA he is a free agent.

In a nutshell we are going to involve ourselves in a massive and expensive legal wrangle  with our bitter rivals, we are going to pay out a massive sum in compensation to our bitter rivals, we have made the club look a stupid and bungling ship of fools in all the media, we are going to outrage, anger and alienate all our fan base apart from a few exhibitionist dissenters, all in the week when season tickets must be renewed - all for a manager who is no fucking good.  It is impossible to think how the replacement of our manager could be a bigger fuck up.

As has just been said the last part of the club statement is pathetically out of touch with the reality of the situation.   The board and that must include Krulak and Lerner think we are outraged because of the Birmingham City connection.   That is of no consequence whatsoever.   Alex McLeish is a bloody awful incompetent manager who plays the sort of football we were told was never to be allowed to return to Villa Park.

The fall from grace of General Krulak and Randy Lerner over this one totally bodged business is an Aston Villa tragedy of epic proportions.

Magnificent post, Brian.

The one saving grace is that useless appointments this wrong on paper usually end up turning well.

Tom Ross knows nothing, and their board cannot afford MON at all.

I am struggling to understand what the board see as the positives of this appointment.

An up and coming manager who has been successful eveywhere he has been?.........NO

A charismatic manager with a penchant for attractive football?.........NO

  A former hero?................Certainly Not.

  A cheap option?.............probably not.

Added to that , a very significant majority of the supporters are against the appointment, not moderately, but vehemently.I think, if McLeish is appointed, it will be the worst day in my 44 years of supporting AVFC.

Downing, Bent, Albrighton, Delph & Clark will NOT thrive under McLeish.

I'm fucked off.

The only logic I can come up with so far:

  • MON takes Villa to a tribunal over constructive dismissal.

  • AMcL takes Small Heath to a tribunal over constructive dismissal.

Yet Randy still wants to take him on?

Very disappointed about today's news!  However, there is still a slim chance that Villa will say no!  :-\
