After reading the statement, it's amazing that they still think he's qualified for the job after 2 relegations in 3 years. It's quite astounding to be honest! I had a nice easy bet today with a colleague on Mark Hughs becoming boss, £20 against, secretly I was longing to lose it, now i am praying to lose it.

I am shocked that the board can honestly think he is the correct candidate for the job given the supporters reaction and depth of feeling, this could become a disaster for the club and ultimately cost them the premier league status.

This makes neither football nor business sense for the club.

Just a very very poor decision on all fronts to even consider this coach when I would be happier appointing a young manager from the championship, as that carries just as much risk as a chap who's been relegated twice. Given the criteria i'd bet that Avram Grant is on our shortlist too as a good manager according to these experts!

If that ginger twat is Lerners choice, he only became available on Sunday.
What the fuck have the board being doing for the last 4 weeks ?

Makes no sense.

Why approach someone that will be  PR disaster and cost us >5m in compensation? And two relegation's in 3 years. Surely Lerner is wiser than that.

The statement reads to me, FANS: We'll do it OUR way, so sit down and be quiet. And to wind up BCFC and Pannu.

What an absolute fucking shambles.

Protesting and banners is so small time, but so are crowds of 20,000.

I will not get behind him if he gets appointed. It's naked contempt for the wishes of fans. Mother of God, this is shite.

Regardless of whether he gets the job, the fact that he's under consideration, given his record in the Premier League record is alarming enough. Add to this the inevitable and irrational reaction that he will get at the first sign of trouble I'm at a loss to understand the thinking behind this one.

A watershed in our recent history, of that you can be sure.

This statement though reads what it is, part of a business plan, that seems to be bumbling and stumbling towards a safe but unspectacular pair of hands, who will do little and not get very much towards it.

If they wanted safe, why don't they plump for Hughes? About as safe as you can get with him.

Bloody 'eck, it's no wonder they say Randy is poor at selecting managers, he's about to do it again.

I've been waivering with my opinion of our board for quite a while now. They way they have handled this appointment off the back of how they handled GH appointment last season, along with sponser, Kit etc left me thinking "Do they really know what there doing, are things like the Holte Pub, just a sweetner to buy good faith" etc etc well I have MY answer. As I stated before, I will support the team and would love to think come May next year we are all left with egg on our faces, however I can't see ANY logic in appointing McCleish. He plays dull, negaitve, uninspiring football (Will make MON's team look like Barcelona) he is also a PR disaster and will divide and alienate the fanbase, at a time where it should be looking to galvanise. His record and win percentage is shocking (apart from the 2 horse race of the SPL) I just can't believe that with the potential candidates he is our BEST option. Truly shocking and a clear signal we have given up the challenge for fourth and are happy with midtable mediocre.

And breath...........................

So the press were right all along. An absolutely shambolic process, no secret internal plan at all.

The stuff in the statement about buying into the club's vision confirms for me that one of his prime 'qualities' is an ability to manage on a shoe string without wanting to buy top quality players.

See you later Downing.

just got a idea that just might grow, NOBODY this season buy a new villa shirt home or away, hit him in the pocket because by hiring Mcleish randy is showing he wants to run Villa on a shoestring, it will only affect us for a season, but cost him plenty of dosh

25/1 for Villa to be relegated with William Hill.

For those that don't understand betting - If you put on your season ticket money of £500, you will be returned  £13,000 in May.
