The way I see it there are two takes on this.    Randy is either making a pig's ear of the job and enquiring after every unsuitable manager around.  OR he is doing nothing of the sort but being very secretive and selective and its all press bollocks.

Even if we have asked Blues what the situation is regarding McLeish, it's not an official request to interview their manager and I'd still be very surprised if we appointed him. What's more worrying is the fact that any such enquiry would suggest that we haven't got very far in our negotiations with other candidates.

What Sky are saying is we made a tentative inquiry to Blues about  where we stood if we wanted to speak to McLeish. Their answer was that he was still their manager as they hadn't accepted his resignation and they would want five million. From the same source that guarantees we spoke to and were rejected by FSW and Martinez last week.

Hughes is clearly available at the end of the month, I find it hard to believe that many Villa fans would rather have McLeish over Hughes.

If Hughes has made some demands in his contract, agree to them.

I didn't want McLaren but he would have been fantastic in comparison to McLeish.  It does show though that the reports that we cancelled McLaren's interview due to negative fan reaction were a complete load of bollocks.

Sky Sports Sources understand Aston Villa have contacted Birmingham City over making a move for Alex McLeish

McLeish was installed as bookmakers' favourite for the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa following his shock resignation on Sunday.

Villa are now believed to have made an enquiry to Blues acting chairman Peter Pannu to enquire McLeish's availability.

Birmingham City have refused to accept Alex McLeish's resignation as manager and are thought to be seeking financial compensation if the Scot moves to Villa.

The St Andrews outfit are believed to be looking for up to £5million for McLeish if they make a move to bring him to Villa Park.

Birmingham have been left angered by McLeish's resignation and they are ready to try and block any efforts for the former Scotland boss to take over at Villa without due compensation.

£5m what a load of wank.  I still think it will be Mark Hughes.  If it was McLeish why is he not already installed.  The compo thing would be sorted down the line or never like most things in football.

I dunno, if they're going to sweeten the deal by giving us 5m to take him, it's possibly worth looking at.

Maybe Villa are waiting for Guus Hiddink to decide on our offer
