Does anyone else think that the General's posts suggest the new manager will have little or no money to spend?

And that may be why we seem to be scraping round the bottom of the barrel?

No.

Haven't the General's recent posts placed plenty of emphasis on compatability with current players and developing youngsters, and made no mention of the new man having to be good at signing proven top quality players?

Isn't asking permission to speak to Martinez scraping the bottom of the barrel?

I wouldn't say Martinez was scraping the bottom of the barrel. I thought he handled himself extremely at the end of the season (keeping his head / taking the pressure off the players) and that probably made the difference between Wigan staying up or getting relegated. I think he has the potential to be a very good manager myself.

All that is quite possibly true, but still, to me, our interest in him suggests that we are looking for a guy able/prepared to develop a team rather than buy one with lavish funds.

If mcleish was coming from rangers would fans feel different?

As it stands he took blues to their highest league finish in 50 years, into europe and won them
a wembley cup final.

His purchases of dann, johnson and foster were shrewd too.

He got them relegated twice and they were the league's bottom scorers.

He did that on purpose. Come in Agent Fuckin Eck, your mission is complete.

Brilliant.  Love it.

I have been told that Mcleish may be going to Bolton after Coyle replaces Moyes at Everton. This is from the Blues end of things. I'm clinging on to that.

This is all just more speculation, nowhere has anyone from either club stated that they have made/received an approach and McLeish has not been quoted anywhere directly saying he even wants the job.  It's simply the media adding 2+2 and making 5.  Had we approached Blues there is  no way that they would not have leaked it to the press, they would have loved it.  For the record I don't want him, not because he was at Blues but because he has a poor record in England and we can find a much better manager who would jump at the chance.

I really don't know why so many people are piling on the abuse for RL and the board before we know the result of all this.  If he comes up with an ace they're going to look like idiots and have to start finding fault immediately with the new guy in order to save face.  Wait and see,  you can have the lynching when you're able to say 'I told you so!!'.

I'm doubtful on Moyes.  Maybe its Coyle to Villa?

The general said whoever was the new manager would be backed 110% by Randy Lerner, as RL has always backed the Villa manager.

Do any of us give a shit about 'saving face'? I know I don't.

You're right about people passing judgement before we make an appointment though.

That would make sense.

I used to think McLeish was a half decent manager, but I can't deal with this.

I would rather have McLaren.

I don't see how McLeish's resignation is any different to Hughes, and the speculation is that the Hughes resignation did not sit well with the Villa Board.

I cannot see this being any different to that. IMHO I think this is a move to someone else, possibly as people have speculated allowing the merry go round to begin properly.

Of course i could be wrong and agent McLeish is being recalled in which case the bottle of black vodka i've got in the freezer will take a pounding tonight and tomorrow!

It's cos we're all shit scared that it could possibly be HIM! At the same time we all (sort of) know it can't be. It will never happen! It won't! EVER!

Will it?

Okay. It's the other stuff that had me worried, even though at face value it's quite sensible. Anyway, we'll see soon enough.
