I think the longer this drags on the more likely it is it'll be someone we don't expect.

Only because we've exhausted the initial list by telling them we don't want them or being refused.

Nobody expects the Spanish Imp from Wigan.

I'm working with a lot of sport journos on one of my currnet projects and none of them have a clue whats going on inside the walls of Villa Park. But the one thing they have told me is that Hughes quit Fulham with the sole intention of being the next Villa manager, and he has made contact with the club before and after he left Fulham.

would be interesting to see a new poll just between Martinez, Hughes and Coyle

my choice would be

1 - Martinez
2 - Hughes
3 - Coyle

What a how d'you do. By now, I just hope whoever gets the job can stay in it, because the thought of another managerial mardi gras like this one gives me a stint of the screaming abdabs.

Maybe part of the reason it's being drawn out, and in fairness it's still only 9 days since Gezza officially left, is that they're trying to put a team in place that would allow us to promote from within in future, thereby giving the club some stability and creating our own version of Liverpool's old 'boot room'?

Imagine this:-
Houllier as DOF
Martinez as manager
K-Mac and Sid as coaches/assistants
Laursen mixed in that somewhere learning the ropes

The emplasis is on youth development and scouting, plus uncle Randy dropping the odd Bent type signing in.  This means that should the manager go, we can continue with the established framework by promoting from within, or if nobody is suitable get an outside manager who can then fit into what we've got without the need to start from scratch again.

Maybe this is why the Rafa thing wasn't pursued as he wanted to bring all his own men in??

Well, that's what Sky Sports told you anyway.

Did I read somewhere that part of Hughes's agreement with Fulham is that he can't go to another club until the end of June?

Hughes has shown he's got what it takes.

He did well with Wales.
He did well with Blackburn.
He was doing a fine job at Man City before being unfairly sacked and in my opinion, he would have equalled what Mancini has done, had he stayed.
He got Fulham playing well. They finished above us with a vastly inferior squad, not forgettting, he took over from a hugely popular manager and still retained the Fulham support.

In fact, there's nothing not to like about his record.

we need someone who attracts players . Houlier has the contacts , If it is the ( Imp ) , I would be happy with Houlier has a DOF with him.

Is Houllier's heart up to it? I thought he was leaving football?
