I wouldn't touch Given with a barge pole. He's 35 and has had a lot of injuries and whilst a good shot stopper he has such a poor command of his area and back four that they invariably look very poor.

Think about the times he's played for Newcastle and their back four has looked poor and how poor Toure and Lescott looked in front of him for City. I'm not sure it's that he has always had the misfortune of playing with poor centre halves.

Anyway I think he'll be off to the graveyard for not quite good enough Irish players that is Celtic. Hopefully with Dunne and (so that we don't sign him) Keane.

New twist to this depending on manager situation.

I want foster.

However, if Moyes comes, I would presume he will attempt to bring Howard with him (and as Everton are skint, presume he would come)

I like Howard - surprised he hasn't been mentioned before now to be honest, even before todays announcement.

He nearly kept them in the Premier but I wouldn't mind him between the sticks at Villa Park

No one's mentioned Tim Howard yet I think....

If Moyes comes here, be interested to see if he makes a move.

I might be wrong, but I'm sure that it's standard that when a manager leaves a club it's written into the severance package that a certain amount of time has to pass before he is allowed to sign players from that club.

Would love to know where this started about Given having "such a poor command of his area." Besides it not being true, it is only in the last year that it has been levelled at him. Was there some "credible" journalist that wrote about this that I must have missed? The consistent reason that used to be given as to why none of the top clubs signed was that he was too small. Only since he joined City has the above garbage been bandied about.

As for command over a back 4....besides Newcastle having an amusing habit of signing comically calamitous centre backs, they also used to sign them with such frequency that they never were able to form a partnership, let alone an understanding with Given...however, the over riding factor would be that they were all gash...name me 1 that played in front of him for any length of time and went on to greater things.

Also, I've watched him over the years play behind some cringingly bad back 4s including the like of McShane. Yet Given manages to marshal them through it somehow. This is borne out by the fact that Ireland rarely get thumped the way they should at times. When he's not there we are liable to i.e. conceding 5 against Cyprus.

At 35, I think he has 4-5 years at the top left. People may say that Foster at 27 is a more sound investment which is fair enough. My belief is that for a keeper you need someone who can go in and perform immediately and not grow into the roll so they might have some sell on value. One decent season for Foster hasnt got me convinced.

Never really thought about that. Which is a shame. If Moyes did come I'd love to see Howard follow him. Great keeper.

Rodwell is destined for United it seems. Arteta and Baines I'd take in a heartbeat. Felliani's quite handy too.

I say Westwood.
Put him on one post and his caddie on the other. At corners the caddie is allowed to take out strikers with a driver. ;D
