I wanted Blackpool to stay up right up until the moment the gobby little prick started giving it large about our club.

From that moment on, I just wanted Blackpool down.

Good riddance.

This for me, too.

I wish they'd stayed up. Holloway may be an irritant, but it made a change to see a crap team actually attack rather than play for 0-0 draws all the time, the league would be infinetely less dull if more teams played like them. Particularly after the number of teams we've seen down VP who aim to just stifle rather than actually play
Actually, it was Coyle's Burnley two seasons' ago that had the "have a go" approach, and it nearly paid off for them.

"this is where their story ends...for the time being"

good bye Ian Holloway

1953...who used to be famous?
Zhong Yi, your original question I think relates to Blackpool's one moment of English football fame, when they beat Bolton 4-3 in the FA Cup Final (the Stanley Matthews final).

Unfortunately Holloway seemed more interested in making the quote of the week (a bit like John Gregory)  then teaching his team to defend.

Yeah they were the 3 i wanted down, obviously some more than others. As for our shit-kicker friend, hopefully we've heard the last of him in the premier league.

I liked Blackpool, I like the way they attacked, I liked the fact they didn't go buck mad with wages and I found Holloway's comment to be a wake up call to everyone at Villa.

The only part that pissed me off was his arse licking of Liverpool in the incident.

yes and how that one little piece of history has been milked to death.

Stanley Matthews didn't even score in the game, did he?

So from that point of view, I am sure that Blackpool are in fact very "half arsed" seeing as they haven't won fuck all since 1953 and the fact that the game is harped on about at every 3rd round FA Cup draw, it could be reasonable to suggest that those serial donkey abusers did infact used to be famous.

My thoughts too. Fair play to Blackpool for giving it such a good go, whoever they played against. Their fans were given value for money week in week out by a group of players earning far less than the rest of the greedy Prem Lge lot.
They deserve all the credit they've been given for their entertaining and brave approach this season, and on that basis so does their manager, however irritating his press conferences may be to some.

As one of the mourners drily remarked after the death of Stan Mortensen "They'll probably call it the Matthews funeral".
