The Heskey incident
« on: May 07, 2011, 08:01:00 PM »
What exactly happened? Am I correct in that he got a blow to the head then lost it with the referee and pushed him after play was waved on?

Pretty much, but not before he fell to the ground and rolled around like he'd been shot! Only to get up when he realised play hadn't been stopped.
Not sure if he got an elbow to the head, will have to watch it again on MOTD, if I can bare to put myself through the pain again!

Yes. Having not been able to go to the game, I watched online from about 20 mins in. Essentially for the second header in a row, the centre half came through Heskeys head to get the ball, Heskey went down and the ref did not blow for the free kick which should have come, waving play on with very little advantage. At which point Heskey (dead at the time) sprang up and basically bull charged the ref, giving him a little shove, before continuing the berating for a good 10 minutes to half time. GMac should have taken him off straight away the way he was kicking off. Lucky to stay on.

Something clicked, and all the abuse from people telling him shit, finally sank into this brain and he realised it was true. Hence the hissy fit.

A second yellow card appeared a certainty but the player remained on the pitch until half-time, when he then again angrily confronted Jones in the tunnel. Unable to calm Heskey, Gary McAllister, Villa's caretaker manager, decided to substitute the player during the interval

"If Emile did barge into the referee then he is lucky," McAllister said. "It's uncharacteristic of Emile; he was annoyed he didn't get protection from the referee, but it was an over-the-top reaction. He's someone I admire and that just isn't Emile. The decision to make the change at half-time was for the team, I needed to make sure we finished with 11 men."

He might well be a nice man but as a footballer I hate him. He was funny when he played for other teams but he's just spectaculary crap now he plays for Villa.

The incident looked like Heskey was being very petulant on MoTD and they did say he kicked off in the tunnel and that was why he was substituted.

It did look really silly, although he did appear to get  a clout in the head, the way he dropped and then jumped up when he didn't get the free kick.
