Reading that QPR were named after Queen's Park reminds me of the fact that Dunfermline are called The Pars because they were originally the Plymouth Argyle Reserve Side.

Don't Chester City (do they still exist ?) play in Wales ?

Chester City went bust. The "new" Chester FC have just been promoted and play at the same place Deva Stadium. It crosses the border. The pitch is in Wales, the front gates and main office are in England.

Queen of the South.

Also the only league club in the UK mentioned in the Bible. Luke 11:31, Matthew 12:42.

Genesis 23:4 "I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”

Acts 8:28 "and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet."

Psalm 80:13 "Boars from the forest ravage it and the creatures of the field feed on it"

Genesis 12:15 "And when Pharaoh's officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace."

Isaiah 41:17 "The craftsman encourages the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil."

Jeremiah 50:25 "The Lord has opened his arsenal and brought out the weapons of his wrath, for the Sovereign Lord Almighty has work to do in the land of the Babylonians."

No doubt there will be mentions of Hearts, Wolves and possibly Rangers too.

Might be getting The Bible confused with Lord Of The Rings. Easy enough to do.

Please tell me that second fact is anywhere near true.

I think VillaSubmariner who has spent too much time in Convict Land, I wouldn't trust his fact.

Clachnacuddin.
They have never been called Inverness Clachnacuddin and their name is gaelic for something like "The place where people wash their clothes in the river" or something equally bizarre.

The Scots have a monopoly here..St Mirren
They have a Fan club in a pub on an island off Hong Kong..off the local ferry and into Little Scotland. Not sure how many fans get in there but great atmosphere.
Must open a Villa version sometime.

Turning this around...

Belfast, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London don't have league teams bearing their name.

Off the top of my head I'm struggling to think of any other major European city not represented in a league team's name apart from Lisbon.

Don't Chester City (do they still exist ?) play in Wales ?

One stand of their ground is in Wales but the rest of the ground is in England.  They may well have the only ground in the World to be spread over two states (as England and Wales are not actually countries),

Are Sporting Lisbon just known as Sporting? Or something like that? I've always refered to them as Sporting Lisbon.
