I'm in the 'meh' camp.  He was a real handful up to a couple of years ago but has looked like a lumbering oaf when he's got on the pitch since then.  Wish him well but can't say I'm at al bothered about him playing or not.

He was great when he could be arsed - not often enough.

He's royally took the piss over the last year or so - hero to zero.

I remember when the deal went through I was listening to talksport and Adrian Durham was having a phone in on John Carew and is he really worth 50k/week? as reportedly Stoker were  breaking their wage structure by paying him. I'm sure we were paying him more than that so he must be on loan with us paying him the remainder.

Also it makes no sense to termintae his contract as you have to pay up the remainder, so not only would we not be receiving a loan fee from stoke but also pay John Carew 65k/week or whatever it is for the remaining 6 months of his contract. Dont think so somehow as there was an interested party in Stoke City so why would we pay off his contract worth around £1m - 1.5m when we could just send him to Stoke and make money out of it too? If that is the case then we are one stupid football club.

He was great when he could be arsed

And that's the problem. If he played today, I would say he'd definitely be 'arsed'.

And that's the story of Carew's career - move to new club, play outstandingly for 2 seasons, get complacent, lumber about, move to new club and play outstandingly again. If he does play he will want to impress Pulis to sign him permanently and so would very definitely 'be arsed'. I think the issue about eligibility will be addresses by a line in that Birmingham Mail article - "The Birmingham Mail is also led to believe that Carew is suffering from a stomach bug and might not be fit enough to be involved, in any event"

He scored 17 goals for us last season and we lost only one of those games in which he scored. He was 6th or 7th most prolific goalscorer in the PL during his time at Villa.

People can say what they like about him as a player or a person, his record speaks for itself.

I think he's a busted flush now.
Pulis has said 'He'll be involved if he recovers from his back injury.'
Ever since he joined us he's had back problems and they seem to be getting worse as he get's older.
Keeping him would be like doubling his wages as he'd only ever play 50% of games.

Grateful for some of his goals and performances, but  his ability and fitness have deteriorated badly and his commitment to the team was seriously questionable at times..

Indeed, he'd be no match for our robust, water-tight, super-mean defence.

Former Aston Villa striker John Carew is hoping that his six-month deal at Stoke is made permanent. Carew's time with the Potters has been hampered by injury and Stoke boss Tony Pulis has yet to decide on his future.

At his peak, we looked a great side and one that was capable of finishing top 4. If he could've just managed a few more games the way he showed he could things could've been so different (not that I'm saying it was all down to him not finishing 4th).

No defender could play him when at his best.

If Big John had shown regular application he would never have been here in the first place.

Okay, as far as I understand it he signed a 6-month temporary contract with Stoke, leaving Villa.

People on here don't seem to care because they think he's shit; but that's not the problem at all. The problem is that the club has (potentially, if true) lied to us completely, arguably because they knew he was a fans favourite.

It'll all come out today if he plays.

Yes, there would have been an absolute furore if it had been made public that a player who couldn't get in the team had been released and joined Stoke until the end of the season rather than joined Stoke on loan until the end of the season prior to being released.

The thought of Carew playing today hardly fills me with dread. I'm sure our defence would rather face him than Kenwyne Jones.

I'm just glad that I no longer have to watch him every week.
