Aston Villa release John Carew
« on: April 22, 2011, 10:55:22 PM »
Twitter is going ape-shit that apparently Pulis has said in a press conference that we have released Carew and that he will therefore be eligible to play against us tomorrow?

Not sure what's going on and apologies if it turns out to be fibs, but here's the AVFC twitter search page: http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23AVFC

from Timothy Abraham: "#AVFC cancelled Carew's contract so he will be in #SCFC squad tomorrow"

I just can't believe we would cancel his contract a day before they're due to play us, that would be insane.

The club may have been waiting for some big distracting news (Houllier's heart) before terminating it, as they know he's a "fans favourite" perhaps?

Not to sound like a raging conspiracy theorist or anything...

I'm always saddened when a favourite player leaves the villa even when it is clear they are are the end of the road with us.

Thanks for the memories John.

On loan Aston Villa man John Carew is eligible to feature for the Potters, though he is likely to be named amongst the substitutes with Wembley goal-scoring heroes Kenwyne Jones and Jon Walters expected to continue in attack.

From the Stoke website.

Big fan of John but with the arrival of Bent its not so bad as I am sure Darren will be the fans favourite we need to replace him.

WTF?

Why are we allowing him to play against us?

WTF is the board doing?

What a dumbass decision.

Why release him (when his contract runs out at the end of season anyway) the day before Stoke play against us?

If he scores tomorrow there will be consequences.

He was released in January, not today.

I thought we loaned him out in January and that his contract expires at the end of the season? It would just make no logical sense at all to release him on the eve we play the club he's currently playing for...

Mat Kendrick didn't know about it at the Brimingham Mail yesterday.

"Along with John Carew and Stephen Ireland, who are at Stoke and Newcastle respectively, Villa have six youngsters out on loan.

They are: Barry Bannan and Eric Lichaj (Leeds), Nathan Delfouneso (Burnley), Shane Lowry (Sheffield United), Jonathan Hogg (Portsmouth), Andreas Weimann (Watford). Elliott Parish (Lincoln).

Carew will not return to Villa when his contract expires at the end of the season, while misfit Ireland’s future remains up in the air."
