We have had so few realy great players over the last decade that AY gets put on a pedestal.
The bloke has talent but he wont go down as a Villa great except for those that are very young or with short memories. He performs like too many of our current players, lacking real intent and hunger. He could be a great player, somehow I dont think he will be.

He's a very good player who we'll miss no doubt, but i don't feel he was integral to the side in the same way Milner was for instance. The major disappointment is the contract situation and the fact yet again we won't get top dollar for him especially with watford getting 15% of the fee

Taggart will get the best out of him as he will make him play as a winger and improve his final ball percentage like he did with Ronaldo .... Thats what will make Ashly into a proper player

Great memories for a player I think some underrated during his time here. Think we'll miss him more than we think.

Onwards an upwards though!

I'm glad he walked off the pitch-he's worth more than if he was carried off
another season-another year when Ash was the most fouled player in the prem

one of these days someone will "hurt him permanent"

but he won't be playing for us anymore.....
hope we spend the money well

Onwards an upwards though!

I guarantee there will be games next season where we'll rue not having Ash to make something out of nothing.

He hasn't quite had the same level of dominance in games he managed for large chunks of 2007 and 2008, but he is still a very effective player at this level. As his assists and goals scored even since that high point would illustrate.

He might improve even further with better players at Man U. Chances are he'll see more of the ball (though perhaps not when it comes to set pieces).

We need a hard nose aggressive midfielder a la Milner.  Although Young is talented, I think that he sometimes "chokes".

Sad to see him go, and don't really begrudge him a move, so long as it is for regular CL football and potential to win trophies.  He's been triffic, just triffic for us.

Think it is inevitable he will go

I have mixed feelings about him - an undoubted talent and generally gave 100%. One of the few who put the effort in and genuinely seemed to care in some of the matches this season when many on the pitch didn't seem to be bothered.
Scored some terrific goals but his crossing, corners and free kicks could be woeful - for someone of his ability.

A good player but agree with those who say take £15mil and let him go

Young will be missed ... and I think it's fairly obvious he's going to go; however we can't dwell on it. I know the talks are about to start, but let's face it: he wants out.

The money we could potentially get for him will be enough for GH - or our new manager - to purchase one or two talented replacements. We still need to replace Jimmy Milner imo, and a full summer will give time to do so.

After the purchase of Darren Bent I think it's obvious that Villa are no longer a 'sell but no buy' club. It's obvious that that was just O'Neill and his odd way of going about things.

This season has been a kick up the arse, one the management sort of needed.

GH was stating there'd be a big shake up of the squad, and the poor performance this season will really push out the players that don't want to be here (a la Young), giving those who want to play for such a great club the chance to join and prove their worth.

Ashley Young can leave and he will be missed, but not so much I'll be crying myself to sleep when the news comes.

If we did a deal with one club and we could do a 'realistic' player plus cash deal, who and what would you go for?

For me, I'd do the deal with Manure and take Carrick + Valencia and 10mill.....
How is that 'realistic'?

Straight cash would be better. First team to go to £18m and he can go with my blessing and best wishes.

I agree mate!

I would really love Ash to stay. We will certainly miss him although if he goes to Manure he will raise his game further. I would be worried if we didn't have Albrighton coming through who I believe has the potential to be as good as Ash but with a better temperament.

I think Ashley has been a very good signing for Villa.  His attitude towards the club and fans has been faultless and he has provided one or two very nice memories in the claret and blue shirt.  Having said that, I believe he is very replaceable and if we get a good price it will be a decent piece of business.  I think a very, very decent Villa side is in the making and Ashley going will not hinder our progress in the slightest.  I'm really looking forward to the transfer window.
